Job summary
The Greener NHS function, launched in 2020, is responsible for supportingthe system's world-leading commitment to deliver a net zero health service by 2045.
This is a senior managerial role within the Greener NHS team, designed for an individual with the capability and interest in driving and delivering a rapid transition to low-carbon healthcare across the system.
As a Senior Manager, the post holder will work flexibly in different parts of the team on a variety of portfolios. This could be with our regional colleagues on all priority areas within the greener function, on a specific project within our travel and transport or estates and facilities work or leading a strategic priority with our external partners. You will ensure alignment with NHS net zero commitments and other key NHS priorities set out in the NHS Long-Term Plan.
The team is seeking a highly organised and capable individual with leadership experience. The ideal candidate should be able to build collaborative relationships, manage complex programmes and projects with multiple interdependencies and stakeholders.

This role would suit someone with a background of working in healthcare and climate change.
Main duties of the job
The Senior Manager will be involved in driving forward specific Greener NHS projects in a variety of different specialist areas, including but not exclusively, travel and transport, estates and facilities, regional delivery, international alliances and strategic levers. This could include:
- Delivering projects using policy development, analysis and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Leading the delivery of agreed Greener NHS projects, including management of interdependencies within NHS England, and with other key stakeholders as required.
- Ownership of specific project workstreams, seeing them through from start to end including problem-definition; multi-factorial analysis; options development and selection; and delivery of an agreed project plan.
- Building productive and respectful relationships with other team members, other teams and Directorates and with external partners and stakeholders.
- Developing and managing communications content and channels with a broad range of colleagues related to Greener NHS projects.
- Facilitating group engagement to solve problems and build buy-in to solutions.
- Helping to manage and mentor more junior members of the team.
- Horizon scanning for the identification of net zero trends and innovations in health and healthcare, converting these into project proposals for the Greener NHS Programme where appropriate.
- Working flexibly across the Greener NHS portfolio in support of the wider team.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.
Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.
NHS England hold a Sponsor Licence; this means that we may be able to sponsor you providing the Home Office requirements are met.
