Job summary

The Greener NHS function, launched in 2020 is responsible for supporting the system's world leading commitment to deliver a net zero health service by 2045.

This is a senior managerial role within the team, designed for an individual with the capability and interest in driving and delivering a rapid transition to low-carbon healthcare across the system. This role would suit someone with a clinical background with experience of working in healthcare and climate change

As a Senior Manager, the post holder will work as part of a dynamic team focused on driving clinical transformation across the NHS, ensuring alignment with NHS net zero commitments and other key NHS priorities set out in the NHS Long-Term Plan including improving patient outcomes, action on prevention and increasing efficiency.

The post holder will play a part in the design and delivery of high-quality low-carbon care across the healthcare system. The team is seeking a highly organised and capable individual with leadership experience. The candidate should understand of the processes and challenges involved in the design, development, and delivery of clinical care and service transformation, as well as capabilities in managing complex programmes and projects with multiple interdependencies and stakeholders.

Main duties of the job

As a Senior Net Zero Manager in the Greener NHS programme, the post holder will work as part of the dynamic and evolving Greener NHS team. The essence of this role is to design, develop and deliver policy interventions and associated delivery plans to secure meaningful carbon reductions across a specific portfolio of healthcare workstreams.

This is an extremely exciting time to join the team. Following the publication of the NHS Long Term Plan, and commitment to become the world's first carbon net zero national health system, the Greener NHS programme has responsibility to implement the commitments relating to climate change in a way that improves health and care delivery. The NHS is leading the way globally in this field, which means we need to be innovative in developing strategies and wide-ranging plans for carbon and waste reduction.

Experience of strategic and operational programme delivery in healthcare is essential for this role. The postholder must also have a high degree of personal resilience and have experience of managing quickly changing sets of priorities.
