Job summary

Accountable to the Postgraduate Dean via the Foundation School Director, Foundation Training Programme Directors play an important part in the direction of training programmes across the Yorkshire and Humber Foundation School.

The Foundation Training Programme Director is responsible for the overall management and quality control of a Foundation Programme within their Trust. The FTPD will work with the local lead educators to ensure that each placement of the programme and the programme as a whole meets the NHSE, NES, NIMDTA or HEIW standard for training and that each foundation doctor is able to access a comprehensive range of experiences which will enable them to gain the competences necessary for full registration and completion of foundation training.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced NHS Consultant with a thorough understanding of Foundation training across the region. They will also have strong leadership and communication skills and be able to work effectively as a member of a multi-professional team.

The post will be available on the basis of a secondment arrangement to NHSE YH remunerated on the NHS Consultant Pay Scale - 1.0 PAs per week.

All work undertaken is to be incorporated into the Consultant Job Plan.

This is a Trust widerole and the successful candidate will haveknowledge of all rotations and trainees.They will be expected to cover forthe other TPDsduring periods of absence.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

  • To manage and quality control a specified foundation training programme.
  • To ensure that all Foundation doctors in the programme have access to suitable training whichwill allow them the opportunity to achieve the requirements for satisfactory completion of F1and the Foundation programme.
  • To work with the LEP(s) for the effective development of a local faculty of educators capableof delivering foundation training.
  • To work with the FSD and faculty to ensure foundation training benefits from acoordinated approach.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Essential

  • Primary medical/dental qualification

Desirable

  • Educational qualification such as a postgraduate certificate diploma or Masters in Medical Education.

Skills

Essential

  • Good communication skills
  • Empathy and understanding of student and trainee problems.
  • Good time management and organisational abilities

Experience

Essential

  • At least 5 years' experience as a registered medical practitioner; consultant, general practitioner, mental health consultant
  • Current substantive post as a registered medical practitioner, consultant, general practitioner, mental health consultant
  • Previous experience and training in clinical and educational supervision
  • Experience of working with doctors in training in an educational context
  • Experience of educational leadership and innovation
  • Commitment to support and participate in the medical education committee in the LEP as required.
