Job summary

Are you a visionary digital leader committed to the delivery of digital innovation and transformation of services? The NHSE South West regional Digital Team is seeking an energetic Deputy Director of Digital Delivery and Innovation to join our dynamic team.

The SW regional Digital Team is passionate about supporting our ICB to delivery transformational change. To ensure innovations are sustained, you will bring a deep understanding of digital health innovation spread and adoption, from a theoretical and practical perspective, and apply this to ensure genuine service transformation results from all our initiatives.

The post-holder will understand the needs of the health and social care system and demonstrate an understanding of the complexities of delivering transformation across broad geographies through a proven track record of digital programme delivery across multiple health and care provider and commissioning organisations. Defining and managing a pipeline of digital innovation, the post holder will work closely with many other teams in the region (Medical, Nursing, and Quality) and will also work closely with innovators from various backgrounds (NHS, academia, and industry), all focused on the delivery of an increasingly ambitious digital agenda.

An experienced team leader is required; your team of Programme Managers will shape the strategic direction of digital innovation within the NHS in the SW region aligned with our priorities and objectives.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced team leader, with a track record of digital transformation delivery across multiple organisations. The main duties of the role include:

  • Programme delivery: programme delivery and innovation expertise input into a range of regional digital transformation programmes. Role is responsible for defining new programmes and ensuring outcomes are realised.
  • Innovation: ensuring digital developments are suitably ambitious whilst remaining feasible in the context of care delivery.
  • Strategic Leadership: collaborate with digital, clinical, and executive Leads from providers and Integrated Care Systems/Boards to develop a credible innovation pipeline. Develop and lead associated professional digital networks across the SW region.
  • Liaison with national team: ensuring alignment between regional developments and national strategy. Influence of national direction through escalation of regional priorities and learning based on a deep understanding of digital innovation development across the region.
  • Digital Team member: deputising for the Digital Transformation Director as required and actively participating in the regional Digital Team, championing the innovation agenda.

Whilst many meetings and engagements may be conducted virtually, the post-holder will be expected to travel to sites across the SW region.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to Masters level or equivalent level or equivalent experience of working at a senior level in specialist area
  • Information technology qualification or equivalent experience gained over a minimum of 3 years in the NHS.
  • Qualification in innovation diffusion/adoption, service improvement, user-centred design, benefits management, and or change management

Desirable

  • Clinical registration or qualification in digital leadership such as the Digital Academy

Knowledge and experience

Essential

  • In depth additional expert knowledge acquired over a significant period of time in the following areas: Knowledge and experience of managing complex digitally enabled clinical pathway redesign programmes in the NHS across multiple systems at a regional or multiregional level

Skills Capabilities & Attributes

  • Evidence of a portfolio of digital programme delivery and associated improvement or transformation process development in an NHS context
  • Evidence of a strong track record of team leadership and delivery of outcomes from complex programmes across multiple organisations
  • Deep understanding of the theory of digital innovation adoption and spread in the health sector (evidenced by a Masters degree or higher/equivalent qualification) and practical application of the theory
  • Experience of working with regional, national, ICS's, and provider Trusts at very senior level
  • Evidence of leadership in designing and communicating a vision for digital innovation development and deployment at scale in the health sector.
