Job summary

In this pivotal role, the Senior Commercial Lead will play a key leadership role in overseeing and managing contract negotiations and post-contract commercial management within the NHP capital works programme. This could include areas like professional services, a scheme of hospitals, and/or a high-value scheme.

They will deliver the provision of a robust, efficient and effective contract management service capable of meeting all statutory, regulatory and NHSE requirements ensuring alignment with the key priority activities of the programme.

This will involve working closely with senior business stakeholders to create and execute short and long-term strategies, for the relevant works programmes, which will best position NHP to maximise value, minimise risk and deliver the agreed benefits of the programme through cost saving or improved operations.

The role will focus on supporting the delivery of continuous improvement through measurable efficiencies (cost and operational delivery) and providing valuable market insights.

The role will adapt over time in response to the changing needs of the programme and will involve line management, coaching and development of direct reports, to deliver robust contract management which ensures delivery at the optimum cost, maximising value.

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist areas.

Knowledge and experience

  • Evidence of a minimum of 10 years' experience in commercial management, ideally within a complex construction or infrastructure environment.
  • Extensive experience in a variety of Procurement and Contracting models and specifically in Construction and Professional Services NEC based contracting environments, using a range of reimbursement models.
  • Experience of working in an integrated project team involving supplier partnering organisations.
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a large infrastructure programme with complex governance structures, interfacing with project managers, planners, risk managers and project controls teams.

  • Provide and receive highly complex, sensitive and contentious information, negotiate with senior stakeholders on difficult and controversial issues, and present complex and sensitive information to large and influential groups.
