Job summary
We are looking to recruit excellent candidates to the role of Deputy Director of Nursing Service Delivery, Transformation and Resilience.
This is a highly expert role directing a person centred nursing response to the delivery of service transformation programmes, reform of elective and unscheduled care services as well as responding to service delivery and continuity challenges at a National Level.
Main duties of the job
- Under the leadership of DCNO, provide expert National Nursing Leadership in the design and deliver of NHSE service transformation strategic objectives and programmes.
- Provide National Nursing Leadership in response to NHS System Resilience issues- leading, designing, mitigating and delivering the nursing response to incidents thereby enabling NHSE to perform its statutory duties as a level one responder.
- Seek opportunities to maximise the nursing contribution and expertise in improving care outcomes for people across unscheduled and elective care pathways.
- Co-develop with nursing leaders' systems and process which maximise Nurse and midwifery Innovation.

- Provide professional nursing leadership and resolve nursing advise to the transformation and operational directorates on all matters relating to service reform and modernisation
- Work with National, Regional and System Leaders to create the conditions which empowers the nursing community to generate innovation solutions which improve access, care outcomes and the efficiency of services. (e.g. elective surgery backlog). This includes providing collective Nursing Leadership in putting NHSE on a new trajectory for urgent and emergency care access and capacity.
- Represent Nursing on the National Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) programme, supporting and enhancing productivity within and across nursing services.
- Create enabling infrastructure to ensure the effective voice/action of nursing in response critical system, service, professional and services supply resilience incidents.
- Support the Deputy Chief Nursing Officer Safety and Improvement, and their team to lead programmes of work to ensure safety, quality and improvement are at the heart of any service transformation programmes
- Ensure delivery against nursing and midwifery commitments linked to the Five Year Forward View and Long-Term Plan implementation programmes and strengthen the focus and contribution of nursing in transformation the NHS.
- Provide compassionate inclusive professional nursing leadership, influence, and work with clinical leads to develop effective networks to engage the nursing workforce in the service transformation, improvement and innovation agenda.
- Provide leadership through Directorate Business Planning Team, ensuring the effective operation in line with NHSE Corporate and Business Objectives, Policies and Procedures
