Head of NHP Operations, New Hospital Programme - 12 month Maternity Leave Cover
An exciting opportunity for a 12-month secondment / fixed term contract within the Programme Office Directorate of the New Hospital Programme (NHP). The Head of Operations will work across all areas of NHP to establish a dynamic and cross-cutting Operations Function and IT and Systems Function, empowering the programme to operate as an effective programme organisation with strong interfaces into wider NHS England and healthcare systems. The purpose of the role is to develop and lead the relevant Operations functions, provide strategic advisory support to the Chief Operating Officer, and ensure that NHP is able to scale-up as a professional organisation that will transform the way we deliver healthcare infrastructure for the future NHS.
Main duties of the job
As the Head of NHP Operations, the post holder will lead and work as part of a dynamic function in delivering an effective service supporting managers and staff within the Programme Operations function.
The purpose of the role is to lead the Programme Operations function, providing strategic advisory, business management and operational support to the Chief Programme Officer (CPO), Director of NHP Programme Office and wider programme.
General aspects of this role will be to:
Ensure strategy is formulated, understood by all stakeholders, and is delivered utilising all available resources efficiently and effectively.
Ensure the development and management of relevant strategic plans, within the Programme.
Ensure appropriate system and processes are in place to enable the implementation of the strategy plans.
Proactively manage key risks and issues, ensuring appropriate actions are taken to mitigate or respond.
Monitor and establish accountability on the overall progress of the strategy to ensure completion within agreed timescales.
Manage the whole budgetary implications of activity.
Avoid the destabilisation of business as usual.
Manage and actively promote relationships with key stakeholders

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.
Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.
