Job summary

The South East Schools of Public Health operate across the South East region as three units of application:

  • KSS - Kent, Surrey Sussex School of Public Health
  • TV - Thames Valley School of Public Health
  • WX - Wessex School of Public Health

The Wessex School of Public Health are now seeking to recruit to anAssociate Head of School and Training Programme Director to support and lead the Wessex School.

Main duties of the job

The School of Public Health leads and supports the specialist and practitioner workforce as well as wider public health workforce development in the South East.

The Associate Head of School and Training Programme Director role is offered as one post. The Associate Head of School (1 PA - 0.5 days a week) will work with the South East Head of School to lead the Wessex School and its programmes as part of the South East. The Training Programme Director (3PA - 1.5 days a week) will lead the specialty training programme for Wessex.

There may be consideration to explore the above being offered in two roles on a 2PA + 2PA basis.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Public Health Specialist on the specialist GMC/UKPHR register
  • Membership/Fellowship of the Faculty of Public Health

Desirable

  • Educational qualification such as a postgraduate certificate diploma or Masters in Medical Education

Experience

Essential

  • High level of education experience, credibility and currently in practice at Consultant/Specialist level.
  • Experience of managing change and strategy development in a politically sensitive and complex environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of the strategic issues relating to public health workforces and workforce transformation agenda
  • A track record of driving through quality improvement in health care and education
  • Understanding of the role and responsibilities of the WT&E (previously HEE) & GMC/UKPHR in public health education
  • Knowledge and significant experience of the role of an Education Supervisor
  • Thorough understanding of the Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education agenda
  • Understanding of developments involving the relevant Colleges/Faculties, professional bodies, related NHS organisations and regulatory bodies

  • Understanding of the range of skills required by the public health and wider workforce to enable delivery of the public health function in a changing health and care system
  • Ability to build and maintain high quality relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders influencing and negotiating to gain consensus
