Job summary

The Integrated Urgent and Emergency Care (IUEC) sub-directorate works across NHSE and Government to develop national policy and strategy relating to the full spectrum of integrated urgent and emergency care, including access to UEC services (999, 111, UTCs, A&E) as well as in hospital process and productivity including discharge, and stepdown intermediate care. Through the team, policy is developed into products and implementation programmes, alongside a robust operational programme where we monitor the impact of policy and provide national leadership to the emerging operational circumstances across IUEC - including day-to-day operational management of IUEC and the Better Care Fund at a national-level.

Main duties of the job

The National Ambulance Advisor will support NHS England to develop national policy and improve ambulance performance across England. The post holder will form an integral part of the National Ambulance Team, working closely with the Director for Pre-Hospital Access to achieve the objectives of the team.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

  • Researching and developing best practice models within the ambulance service to support and drive improved performance.
  • Feeding into the ambulance service productivity workstream.
  • Providing high-level advice to the ambulance team on a range of national policy issues.
  • When needed, provide local advice to regions and individual ambulance services, and facilitate dialogue and communications between National Team and individual organisations to support sustainable transformation change and improvement.

We are seeking someone with the following skills and attributes:

  • Experience of working at executive or board level within the ambulance service.
  • Ability to bring stakeholders together to resolve issues within the ambulance sector.
  • Examples of developing and rolling out best practice initiatives within the healthcare sector.
  • Experience of working at a national level in healthcare policy (desirable).
