Job summary
As Policy Development Principal Lead, the post holder will be part of a new dynamic team to deliver an effective service supporting leaders and staff in developing national policy and frameworks on protected characteristics.
The post holder will work collaboratively with and support the EDI policy implementation team to ensure there is alignment and consistency across both work programmes.
As a key member of the Policy / framework development team the post holder will be expected to attend as appropriate, meetings with varied internal and external key stakeholders to facilitate the delivery of the strategic objectives.
The post holder will also be expected to provide cover as required for the policy implementation unit in event of annual leave etc.
Main duties of the job
- Working within the overall strategic objectives to research, develop and devise national policy and frameworks to promote equality andinclusion within the NHS workforce.
- Able to engage with range of stakeholders to build consensus and understand and work within the political environment, and supportothers in the team to understand strategic direction
- Manage and support the delivery of specific programmes and projects relating to key priorities of the team. These priorities will includethe effectiveness or otherwise of local and national initiatives to improve workforce EDI across the NHS;
- Work closely with national and regional directors and their senior teams, championing the use of insight to improve decision-making onkey priorities linked to EDI policy and the improvement plan
- Well-developed critical thinking skills, able to work with complex analysis and apply some policy and strategy tools to create workablesolutions
- Strong communication skills, able to adapt style to different audiences to ensure maximum impact. Providing advice, giving persuasiveexplanations of complex concepts orally and in writing to a range of audiences, in a clear and accessible manner
- Able to manage complex and fast paced projects and pieces of work, prioritising own workload and that of the team to adapt tochanging requests, lead programme governance including, delivery risks and quality assurance for team's deliverables

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.
Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.
