Job summary
The Health Equity Specialist is a key role in the regional Public Health (PH) directorate and Health Equity team reporting to the Prevention Programme Manager. As part of this team, they will support the direction for the regional efforts to improve regional healthy life expectancy and reduce health inequalities. The principal focus is on improving health equity for the population by ensuring there is an integrated approach to delivery that incorporates Population Health Management (PHM), Health Improvement, Prevention and Health Inequalities programmes.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide advice, guidance and support to the Prevention Programme Manager and health equity team ensuring that projects / programmes of work for improving population health, supporting prevention, and reducing health inequalities are delivered effectively. This will include the provision of a public health informed approach to project and programme delivery resulting in the implementation of an overall regional Health Equity approach.
The Health Equity Specialist will be responsible for the delivery of key activities and task as agreed with the Prevention Programme Manager and system colleagues.
The post holderwill work collaboratively with colleagues across the directorate and regionally to support the delivery of system and regional objectives. Leading a multidisciplinary matrix team that will support the delivery of health equity projects and workstreams, focused on achieving national regional and local priorities that are aligned to the core aspect of the national Core20Plus 5 initiative, strategic priorities, the regional Long Term Plan (LTP) prevention agenda and PHM strategies.

Essential
- Educated to Master's degree level in health research, epidemiology, statistics, public health or an allied subject.
- Further training or significant experience in project management, financial management or supporting change management processes.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Has at least 3 months experience of working within a public health team and/or supporting public health.
- Experience analysing and interpreting routinely collected health and social care
- Relevant qualitative research and/or evaluation experience, including data collection using interview-based and observation methods, and qualitative data analysis.
- Experience of evaluating and measuring the performance of healthcare or health services or related projects aimed at exploring issues related to health inequalities, health or environments using quasi-experimental methods.
- Experience of undertaking rapid evidence reviews.
- Experience of setting up and implementing internal processes and procedures.
- Demonstrated experience of co-ordinating projects in complex and challenging environments.
- Experience of delivering Public Health initiatives to tackle inequalities and improve population health.
Desirable
- Experience in communications and stakeholder management.
- Comprehensive knowledge of project principles, techniques and tools, such as Prince 2 Foundation and Microsoft Project.
