Main duties of the job

More about the role

Input patient identifiable cancer data onto the NCRAS cancer registration system. This includes the collection and abstraction of the Cancer Outcomes and Services Dataset (COSD) from multiple data sources such as pathology, molecular and genomic data, cancer management systems, clinical letters, screening information and death certificates.

Code all cancer data to national and international classifications such as Office of Population and Census (OPCS4) procedure codes and the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) using judgement to decide on the appropriate code or action for difficult cases.

With difficult cases use judgement to decide either on the appropriate coding, or to obtain more information from senior registration officers to allow coding.

Develop in depth knowledge of designated cancer site(s) in order to facilitate the abstraction of information associated with the site(s), and appropriate coding. Use this expertise to advise others within NCRS.

Respond to the changing needs of the department as new sources of electronic data are received from trusts and require reconciliation with existing data.

Contribute to the overall improvement of data quality of the NCRS cancer registration database.

Resolve errors identified on the NCRS cancer registration database by validation or data conversion checks.
