Job summary

As a Quality Improvement Officer, the post holder will work as part of a dynamic team in delivering an effective service supporting managers and staff across the NHS South West Region to deliver improvements.

This role will support the region in the following areas:

  • Supporting quality improvement and surveillance, including safety, safeguarding and patient experience, with providers and commissioners.
  • Supporting delivery of improvements in priority areas of the long-term plan.

We are now seeking a dedicated Quality Improvement Officer to join our dynamic Clinical Quality team. The post holder is required to have a degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level of experience of working at a similar level in specialist area.

Further training or significant experience in project management, financial management or supporting change management processes.

QSIR practitioner qualification is desirable with a commitment to undertake the qualification.

Main duties of the job

In particular the post holder will:

  • Support teams to ensure that the portfolio of tasks/projects is planned, managed and delivered effectively and act as the first point of contact for enquiries.
  • Support and inform the targeting of resources, monitoring spends, implementation and evaluation of the tasks/projects by providing high quality support including complex information and analysis, communications and stakeholder management.
  • Ensure accurate and open communication and co-ordination with a range of organisations and individuals, researching and drafting correspondence and papers and ensuring the management of specific tasks, lead reporting and analysis across a range of specialties, functions and projects. Maintain project trackers and databases as required.
  • Be a key member of the team as well as supporting effective communication and stakeholder management, both internally and externally.
  • Provide quality improvement expertise and guidance as required.
  • Assist in project planning and delivery, using a quality improvement approach and methodology to measure impact and develop a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Proactively signpost and connect staff to enable shared learning and reduce duplication.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

The Quality Improvement Officer will have a key role in the region supporting the delivery of the regional objectives by:

Working as part of the South West Nursing Directorates quality hub to provide a responsive and professional service to the clinical quality team, the nursing directorate, wider organisation and external stakeholders.

To provide quality improvement advice and facilitation as required, both internally and externally, as guided by the Assistant Quality Improvement Manager.

To support the delivery of quality improvement projects in response to quality intelligence and data.

To support the delivery of improvements in priority areas of the long-term plan.

To support senior colleagues to develop and apply the broader quality surveillance and assurance processes in order to support systems to deliver high quality care.

To enable the Nursing Directorate improvement interventions to be focussed on evidence based need.

To support the smooth running of South West Nursing Directorate quality hub by being an effective member of the team and working in collaboration with others.

To work collaboratively across the NHS England matrix, including integrating the National Directors portfolio.

Enabling patient and public involvement

To act as a champion for patients and their interests and involve the public and patients in the policy development and decision-making of NHS England.

To ensure all public and patient contact with the office is of the highest professional standard.

To embed patient and public involvement within NHS England at all levels of decision making.

To promote and encourage the principles of co-design and co-production.

Promoting equality and reducing inequalities
