Job summary
As a Quality Improvement Officer, the post holder will work as part of a dynamic team in delivering an effective service supporting managers and staff across the NHS South West Region to deliver improvements.
This role will support the region in the following areas:
- Supporting quality improvement and surveillance, including safety, safeguarding and patient experience, with providers and commissioners.
- Supporting delivery of improvements in priority areas of the long-term plan.
We are now seeking a dedicated Quality Improvement Officer to join our dynamic Clinical Quality team. The post holder is required to have a degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level of experience of working at a similar level in specialist area.
Further training or significant experience in project management, financial management or supporting change management processes.
QSIR practitioner qualification is desirable with a commitment to undertake the qualification.
Main duties of the job
In particular the post holder will:
- Support teams to ensure that the portfolio of tasks/projects is planned, managed and delivered effectively and act as the first point of contact for enquiries.
- Support and inform the targeting of resources, monitoring spends, implementation and evaluation of the tasks/projects by providing high quality support including complex information and analysis, communications and stakeholder management.
- Ensure accurate and open communication and co-ordination with a range of organisations and individuals, researching and drafting correspondence and papers and ensuring the management of specific tasks, lead reporting and analysis across a range of specialties, functions and projects. Maintain project trackers and databases as required.
- Be a key member of the team as well as supporting effective communication and stakeholder management, both internally and externally.
- Provide quality improvement expertise and guidance as required.
- Assist in project planning and delivery, using a quality improvement approach and methodology to measure impact and develop a culture of continuous improvement.
- Proactively signpost and connect staff to enable shared learning and reduce duplication.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.
Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.
