Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a confident, enthusiastic pharmacist with an understanding high cost drugs commissioning to join our dynamic specialised commissioning pharmacy team, London Region (NHS England and Improvement) as a Pharmacy Adviser. This is an established post in the ever evolving specialised commissioning medicines optimisation pharmacy team requiring extensive Trust clinical experience, understanding of commissioning high cost medicines and expertise in making change happen. The post holder will be joining the medicines optimisation team which has a record of delivering London implementation of specialised commissioned medicines, working with clinicians, patients and London Trusts, Improving Value schemes giving financial savings for reinvestment and quality improvement. The team includes regional & deputy specialised commissioning pharmacy leads, pharmacy advisers, a pharmacy technician and cancer & immunoglobulin commissioning pharmacists as well as working in a matrix way with clinical commissioning pharmacists embedded in London Trusts.

The role will require to work locally with Integrated care systems, regionally on a London-wide basis but also with specialised commissioning colleagues across the other regions.

The post holder must be a GPhC registered pharmacist who is an excellent communicator with good interpersonal and relationship building skills.

Main duties of the job

As the Specialised Commissioning Pharmacy Advisor, the postholder will work as part of a dynamic team in the delivery of an effective service. The postholder will support the regional and deputy specialised commissioning pharmacy lead in the provision of professional, independent pharmaceutical advice to the London region focusing on the identification, dissemination, impact assessment of NICE and other national policy guidance on specialised services, medicines and technologies.

The postholder will support and deputise as required for the regional lead and deputy head for specialised commissioning in the provision of an efficient, effective and high quality professional pharmaceutical advice service capable of meeting all statutory, regulatory and NHS requirements ensuring alignment with the activity of the organisation.The role supports the business in driving transformation as well as value for money in planning, commissioning and service. The role is designed to build a combination of subject matter expertise and technical skills to develop a strong service delivery.

The post is responsible for providing professional expertise to the outcome of the business processes for the Specialised commissioning services including links between the region & Integrated Care Systems (ICSs). The postholder will be a member of the wider Pharmacy Team in the London Medical Directorate.

Qualifications

Essential

  • UK accredited MPharm degree or historical equivalent or able to register with GPhC.
  • Current valid GPhC registration
  • Educated to diploma level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist area

Knowledge and experience

Essential

  • Extensive knowledge of specialist areas (including high cost medicines) acquired through post graduate diploma or equivalent experience or training plus further specialist knowledge or experience to master's level equivalent.
  • Evidence of post qualifying and continuing professional development.

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills; The ability to work under pressure and complete work to tight deadlines
