Job summary

The Business & Education Manager works with the Senior Business & Education Manager and the Head of Business & Education across the Region and Sub-Region supporting the business and education function which includes management and operational delivery of medical and dental education activity. Examples of which are financial management and governance, project management, and successful delivery of recruitment and programme management activities for medical and dental trainees. They will develop and implement locally defined processes whilst following standard operating procedures, utilising national policy, and guidelines.

Main duties of the job

The post is responsible for leading managing and supporting a client-focused, comprehensive service establishing and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders. They will provide subject matter expert level advice to senior clinical staff, and internal and external stakeholders within their functional area of business. The role involves understanding and managing a range of complex issues e.g. implementation of financial processes, management and planning within NHSE Standing Financial Instructions, performance management, contract management and monitoring arrangements, information governance requirements and the wider healthcare developments and service delivery needs of local provider organisations.

In addition, the role requires understanding of the recruitment and assessment regulations, monitoring requirements of GMC and the monitoring and data management requirements of training posts.

This post holder will be responsible for assimilating complicated and multi- stranded information from a range of sources and will be required to analyse, summarise, undertake gap analysis and provided evidence based recommendations e.g. on medical workforce commissions, medical workforce planning and finance information to Senior Education Team, internal and external, across the Region.

This role involves contributing to strategic planning and leading on designated functional areas for medical education commissioning, both within a local office and regional context. This will include supporting development of strategic workforce plan and drafting the investment plan for medical education for the next five years, contributing to organisational deliverables, national, regionally, and locally.

The post holder must use their own judgement to deal with this complexity, often in the face of conflicting pressures and information recognising when appropriate to escalate as well as maintaining good working relationships with stakeholders requiring highly developed communication and engagement skills.

The post holder would be required to draft and implement locally and regionally a range of guidance for their functional area to support the service delivery of medical and dental education, based on national policy.

The postholder will have line management responsibility for staff in the relevant team(s) as defined within each Local Office or regionally. In addition, the postholder will be expected to contribute to the multi- professional nature of the business of NHSE across the South East region and support region-wide PGMDE activities.
