Training Programme Director - Dental Foundation

Job summary

The post holder will be responsible for oversight of professional development of

Dental Foundation trainees.

You will be part of a teamresponsible for monitoring and improving standards for Dental Foundation trainingacross the region. You will co-ordinate quality-assessment and management ofeducational and clinical supervisors (trainers) relevant to the needs of DentalFoundation training.

Note

This list of duties is not exhaustive but indicates the main areas of work. This may be subject to change after consultation with the post holder to meet the changing needs of the organisation and to reflect the developing skills of the individual

Please note this is a 3 year Fixed Term role.

Main duties of the job

To monitor the professional development of Foundation Dentists on the scheme assigned and report this to the regional AD for Foundation Training

To ensure that this quality management process by NHS England conforms to guidance within the Dental Blue (Foundation) Guide

To manage an allocated Dental Foundation Scheme within NHS England NW Dental Foundation Training (DFT) Programme

The allocation of TPDs to individual schemes will be at the discretion of the Regional PGDD and AD for Foundation Training

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Primary dental qualification
  • At least 5 years' experience in an Educational Supervisor
  • Current active GDC Registration (without conditions past or present)
  • Currently working clinically within an NHS dental practice with NHS commitment for the duration of the post
  • Educational qualification such as a postgraduate certificate, diploma or master's in medical education) or demonstration of equivalent experience
  • A commitment not to be an educational supervisor if appointed as a Training Programme Director (if you are a current ES, NHSE will honour the agreement for the current FD)

Desirable

  • Can demonstrate active involvement in professional bodies/LDA/MCN
  • Enhanced clinical skills

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience and training in clinical and educational supervision role
  • Demonstrates Innovation
  • Demonstrates a track record of delivery of required tasks to stated timelines, e.g. practice visits, portfolio monitoring etc
  • Trained and experienced in Equality and Diversity in the last 3 years

Desirable

  • Demonstrable track record of delivery in service and education (
  • Experience in training & understanding of recruitment and selection processes
  • Previous experience in an educational leadership role (
  • Good understanding of current health social and education policy relevant to the role
  • Awareness of the recommendations of Advancing Dental Care
  • Experience in supporting Overseas Qualified Dentists
  • Mentoring and Coaching experience
