Job summary

As Director of Commercial Delivery, the post holder will lead commercial delivery for all areas of spend for NHS England.

The NHS is one of the biggest commercial "organisations" in the country, buying on behalf of the fifth biggest employer in the world. The NHS England Commercial Delivery team leads on commercial activity for NHS England and in the instances where NHS England lead procurements on behalf of the NHS

We are responsible for the management of over 3,000 contracts valued at around £13bn and we deliver over 1,100 new procurements a year at a value of approximately £2.5bn. We deliver this through four main categories of spend: Digital, Data and Technology; Workforce, Training and Education; Clinical Services; and Professional, Corporate and Estates Services.

This role will lead commercial delivery for these categories of spend across the full commercial lifecycle from customer engagement and commercial strategy development, market management, procurement, contract and supplier management and exit.

This is a challenging and exciting role that will embed the new operating model for NHS England Commercial and then develop and mature the team ensuing a real focus on internal customer relations and service delivery.

Main duties of the job

Reporting to and deputising for the Director of Commercial Delivery and Governance and part of the extended leadership of the our new Commercial Directorate for NHS England.

As Director of Commercial Delivery, the post hold will be responsible for all NHS England commercial activity for direct 3rd party spend for NHS England and for national procurements undertaken on behalf of the NHS. Specific responsibilities include:

Engaging with and providing a business partnering service to the organisation, helping national directorate and regions to develop mature commercial pipelines and strategies.

Leading all procurements for NHS England for Digital, Data and Technology; Workforce, Training and Education; Clinical Services; and Professional, Corporate and Estates Services spend - driving value and efficiencies and ensuring compliance with relevant procurement regulations and spend controls.

Leading contract management for these contracts, with a focus on our most critical contracts and developing strategic supplier relationships.

Fully embedding our new operating model, driving continuous improvement and embedding the New Procurement Act into working practices.
