Job summary

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and dynamic individual into the role of Senior Finance Manager - Productivity Support.

The post holder will work as part of a dynamic, innovative team in delivering an exciting new programme which will support systems and organisations to identify and deliver improvements in productivity, resulting in better care for our patients. The team works in partnership with colleagues from across the regional team as well as with colleagues in our systems.

The Finance Directorate is a high performing team, flexible in approach, adaptable to change and a key function of the Regional. It oversees the financial performance of the Region by:

  • Ensuring risk is managed and balanced across organisations, systems and the Region;
  • Managing and actively promoting system working to ensure best value for money;
  • Ensuring systems and processes are in place to enable sound financial control;
  • Providing necessary advice, support, challenge to organisations and the systems;
  • Work with systems and organisations to develop sustainable financial strategies

Main duties of the job

The role is designed to build a combination of subject matter expertise across finance, performance and workforce areas, with strong technical and communication skills as we design and deliver first class support for our systems.

It may suit a candidate with strong experience and technical skills from a range of potential backgrounds including but not limited to finance or analytics, who has the appetite to become a subject matter expert in a range of areas, can demonstrate exceptional technical skills and enjoys working collaboratively with colleagues from across organisations and systems from a range of disciplines.

Provide support to the Deputy Director to develop and deliver productivity and efficiency programmes for the South West, working closely with colleagues across the region to ensure best use of available benchmarking, learning and best practice;

Support the process for ensuring that the regular reporting of the productivity metrics for systems within the Region happens in a timely manner, and is supported by high quality information analysis and continually improved, always looking to find new ways in which the consistent regional understanding of productivity can be improved across organisations;

Provide support, and ensure, accurate and open communication and co-ordination with staff from all South West systems to enable best practice to be identified and shared;

Provide analysis to support the delivery of regulatory responsibilities, including assurance of service change processes, transactions and other reviews;

  • CCAB finalist who has successfully passed their final examinations and needs only to complete relevant work experience to qualify
  • At least two years' post-qualification experience working in finance in a large or complex organisation, ideally within the NHS
  • Evidence of post qualifying and continuing professional development.
  • Have an understanding of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy and appreciate the implications of this on engagement.
  • Have an appreciation of the relationship between the Department of Health and individual provider and commissioning organisations.
  • High standard of ability to communicate financial information to non-finance colleagues both orally and written.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently using own initiative
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills and the ability to stay calm in difficult situations e.g. within meetings about matters of potential controversy
  • Able to provide and receive highly complex, sensitive or contentious information, and present complex and sensitive information.
