Job summary
The Training Programme Director is responsible for the co-ordination, running and quality control of the Dental Foundation Training programme across a defined East of England footprint. There are currently approximately 12-16 trainees allocated to each scheme, but this is subject to change based on a review of the regional and national programme numbers.
The post holder will be involved in supporting existing training practices and developing non training teams to become suitable training environments.
The post will be for 1 session per week through July 2023 while you learn the role alongside one of our experienced TPDs, and increase to 3 sessions per week from August 2023 when you take over as the appointed TPD for the DFT scheme.
Main duties of the job
NHS Workforce Training & Education is looking to recruit to the post of Dental Foundation Training Programme Director working across East of England.
You will work as part of the regional EoE (East of England) team. You will be required to attend sessions at the associated Post graduate centre for your Dental Foundation scheme, and attend meetings at various East of England locations as required. The post holder will work closely with the Postgraduate Dental Dean, Associate Deans and Office teams within Workforce Training & Education (WT&E)
The post holder will be responsible for oversight of professional development of Foundation Dentists within an allocated area. You will be part of a team responsible for monitoring and improving standards for Dental Foundation training across the region. A primary part of this role will be to escalate to the Regional Post-Graduate Dental Dean (PGDD) and Associate Deans any risks that might affect the workings and reputation of NHSE WT&E.

- Management of defined Scheme e-portfolio including production of reports and feedback for Foundation Dentists (FDs)
- Input in to the recruitment of Educational Supervisors (ESs) including undertaking practice visits as directed
- Organising, managing and directing the local scheme study programme ensuring the programme meets curriculum requirements
- Produce regular reports as required
- Co-ordination and participation in the Interim and Final Review of Competency Progression (IRCP and FRCP) process in consultation and liaison with the Dental Dean as necessary
- Overseeing the progress of individual trainees through the curriculum; ensure learning objectives are set, appropriate assessments carried out, and appropriate supervision and support is in place
- Attend meetings as directed
