Job summary

The role of Associate Dean (Hospital and Community) is to support the Postgraduate Dean in ensuring the delivery of high quality post-graduate specialty education including public health and mental health. The role is focused upon providing an excellent educational experience for all trainees, regardless of background, which will support the delivery of high quality, compassionate patient care.

Main duties of the job

The Associate Dean will assist and work with the PG Dean and Deputy Deans to ensure the delivery of safe and compassionate care to patients through the delivery of high-quality specialty training. The post holder will have local responsibility for the co-ordination, provision and management of postgraduate training activities within the North West.

Associate Deans are responsible, as a team, for leading, developing and maintaining:

  • high standards of Specialty Training.
  • high standards and educational oversight across the whole of the Postgraduate Specialty Schoo
  • As senior members of the NHSE NW team, Associate Deans share responsibility for the overall development of postgraduate medical, public health and dental education within the NW. They take responsibility for contributing to and leading, as required, any specific NHSE NW projects. This will include liaison with the ICS, Acute Trusts, regional NHS organisations and relevant national bodies.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Medical or Dental Practitioner with a current licence to practise or hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (or equivalent) in Public Health (for roles in School of Public Health)
  • Membership/Fellowship of a College, Faculty, professional association and/or regulatory body
  • Applicants should either work in NHS clinical practice (or similar setting) or should have previously undertaken clinical practice within the last 2 years prior to the intended start date of the role
  • Applicants regardless of professional background, must have a track record of professionalism in line with the principles set out in Good Medical Practice and compatible with appointment in a senior clinical educator role
  • Active involvement in, and up to date with, NHS appraisal processes
  • Consultant currently working in the NHS in the North West of England

Desirable

  • Attendance at courses aimed to support educational development (example: educator courses, Train the Trainer, etc.)l qualification such as a postgraduate certificate, diploma or Master's in education

  • Ability to critically appraise and problem solve whilst maintaining objectivity.

  • Active involvement in, and up to date with, NHS appraisal processes.
  • Trained and experienced in recruitment, selection and Equality and Diversity in the last 3 years
