This exciting opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Director of Medicines Policy (Optimisation) within the Medicines Policy & Strategy Unit which is part of the Medicines Value & Access Directorate - Chief Financial Officer Group. The role directly manages staff within the Medicines Policy Teams.
The Deputy Director of Medicines Policy (Optimisation) will lead a team focused on delivering policy projects in support of the Long-Term Plan and other clinical priority areas. The postholder will work closely with other teams across NHS England, as well as with partners organisations such as DHSC, UK Health Security Agency, MHRA, royal colleges and patient groups to deliver on policy projects including systematisation of Medicines Optimisation, the National Overprescribing Review, implementation of the Dependence Forming Medicines Review and the Chief Professions Officers' Medicines Mechanisms (CPOMM) programme. The role will focus on implementation support working alongside Regional Chief Pharmacists.

The role will be office based at one of our main offices in London, Leeds, Manchester or Runcorn. There will be a requirement for travel to other office locations when necessary.
Main duties of the job
This post holder will act as the overallleadformedicines policy with a focus on clinical projects. Theother post holder will at as the overallleadfor medicinespolicyaccess projects. There will be projects which the twodeputy directors willneed to work collaboratively to deliver. Both posts will work closely with the Deputy Director of Medicines Analysis, the embedded Medicines Analysis Team and other relevant data teams. The post holders willworkalongside clinical, scientific, health economic,policy andfinancialleaders to provide expert advice and recommendations to the leadership of NHS England on high profile and sensitivemedicinesissues.
The post holder will provide exceptional people and policy leadership. You will manage a team that is providing a core policy and strategy function to the wider organisation, with staff working on a wide range of projects and activities focused on driving and enabling improvement inmedicines in relation toquality and outcomes across the NHS, in accordance with the Long Term Plan.
The post holder will work as part of a flexible multidisciplinary team, embedded within the wider Medicines Policy and Strategy Unit, responsible for delivering a range of policy initiatives covering medicines access, medicines optimisation and medicines net zero.

Salary Progression
Applicants will commence at the bottom of Band 9 with a full-time starting salary of £99,891, with a pay step increase after 5 years service.
For posts based in Inner London, the above salaries will include the additional supplement of 20% of basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £5,132 per annum and a maximum payment of £7,746 per annum.
