Please note - This post is offered on a 12 Month Secondment, to be furtherextended under review at the end of the period. Permanent appointmentswould be considered. The number of weekly PA's is negotiable but we expect aminimum commitment of 2 sessions per week. We are seeking Obstetricians forthe role of National Maternity Improvement Advisor (NMIA) to work in partnershipwith Trust's to support development needs to improve governance, staffengagement, increased responsiveness to women's voices, leadership, safety andquality improvement in order to affect sustained change in the five Care QualityCommission domains.

This post is ideal for Obstetricians seeking to gain exposure to the nationalprogramme at a senior level, with further personal development of their clinical andmanagement leadership skills.

As an NMIA you will be allocated to Trusts requiring additional support to improvematernity service CQC ratings to good and outstanding who have consistentlyremained at Requires improvement, or to those services requiring further support tomeet any key national recommendations for maternity services to deliver theoutcomes required and improvements in the quality, safety and sustainability ofservices for women and their families. This is an advisory, supportive and facilitativerole, working closely with the leadership of both the maternity service and the trust,but without cutting across the jurisdiction or responsibilities of their Boards.

Main duties of the job

  • Ensure that every maternity service being supported has a well formulated,appropriate, and meaningful maternity safety and quality improvement planthat has been developed by robust engagement with all of the maternity MDTworkforce and service users, is understood by all stakeholders and is deliveredutilising all available resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Ensure delivery of all national maternity agendas, initiatives, andrecommendations.
  • Support a positive safety culture within the organisations through inclusiveleadership and role modelling adaptive leadership.
  • Support and advise on the development of a robust safety and qualityimprovement plan in maternity services that has clearly defined measurableoutcomes, demonstrates impact for women, families and the maternity MDTworkforce and moves through improvement, to sustainable change and tobusiness as usual.
  • Ensure appropriate oversight at all levels through the organisation and thatsystems and processes are in place to enable the implementation of the planssupported by a positive organisational culture.
  • Support and advise on the key risks and issues associated with ensuringappropriate actions are taken to mitigate or respond to those risks
  • Support and advise on monitoring and establishing accountability on theoverall progress of the plan to ensure completion within agreed timescales.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Member or Fellow of the Royal College Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • CCT in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (or equivalent)
  • Educated to Masters or equivalent level or equivalent experience of working at a senior level in specialist area.
  • Experience of project and programme management techniques and tools such as Prince 2 or Managing Successful Projects

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Proven board level experience of leading and delivering complex change and strategy development programmes in a politically sensitive and complex environment.
  • Experience and/or understanding of UK health economy.
  • Experience of successfully operating in and delivering priorities in a partnership environment.
