Job summary
The Training Programme Director in Emergency Medicine (Mersey/North West) will support the Head of School in the Strategic Development of the School of Emergency Medicine.
The post holder will lead on the development of the School's Wellbeing Strategy with a particular focus on Neurodiversity as well as supporting the School to develop an Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity Policy to ensure training is delivered in a fair, equitable manner that recognises and maximises the contributions to be made by all trainees and trainers.
The post holder will be a member of the School Board and support the School Operational Programme.
Please note there are two roles covering the NW and the Mersey regions
Main duties of the job
Work in collaboration with the Head of School and other Training Programme Directors to develop a strategy for Wellbeing and Neurodiversity as well as supporting the School's development of an Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity Policy that together support the education, development and work of Emergency Medicine trainees and trainers.
Work in collaboration with the Head of School for Emergency Medicine to develop and implement a Medical Workforce Strategy which supports the recruitment and retention of Emergency Medicine.

Essential
- Consultant in Emergency Medicine on the Specialist Register
- Fellow of the RC Emergency Medicine
- Consultant currently working in the NHS in the North West of England
Desirable
- RCEM MRCEM or FRCEM examiner
- Educational qualification eg Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education, Masters in Medical Edcuation or equivalent such as Fellow of the Academy of Medical Educators
Experience
Essential
- A strong awareness of the challenges facing trainees in passing RCEM examinations at different stages of training as well as knowledge of the varied reasons that cause trainees to struggle.
- Excellent knowledge of Deanery policies of relevance to identifying trainees that require examination support and knowledge of options that are available to support trainees who are struggling.
- A recognition of the current challenges in Emergency Medicine training and a demonstrable commitment to the improvement of the Wellbeing of Emergency Medicine Trainees and Trainers.
- Experience of organizing / delivering education programmes / courses
- Considerable experience of working with doctors in an educational context including experience as an Educational Supervisor.
- Trained and experienced in recruitment, selection and Equality and Diversity in the last 3 years
- Applicants who are doctors require a Licence to Practise
