The Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) team provides a range of services that enables the application of learning technologies and simulation-based education within NHS England and across the health and care workforce to support education and training to improve patient care. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on a national function as part of an innovative and fast-paced portfolio of work. Duties will be challenging and varied, with plenty of opportunities to develop your skills and put your personal mark on this system-wide change programme.

Main duties of the job

  • Work in an agile software development team to deliver functionality and enhancements to TEL's platforms, driven by the needs of end-users and the training programme.
  • Contribute to the decision-making process using your technical knowledge and understanding of the systems in use.
  • Take responsibility for the code base of applications, setting standards and expectations of developersto ensure high quality and adherence to associated standardsand helping them to meet them through code reviews andlearning opportunities.
  • Develop appropriate strategiesorpoliciesto support the use of emerging technologies and systems.
  • Help manage front- and back-end web resources ensuring high quality and adherence to associated standards and compliance.
  • Establish partnerships/constructive relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders and actively develops and maintains these
  • Develop and implement impact/risk assessments of new digital services and systems.
  • Carry out regular research to ensure that work, technologies and standards are up to date and relevant to industry standards and the needs of theorganisation.
  • Champion Agile ways of working andensurealignment to the Government Digital Service Standard.
  • Implement digital service development in such a way as to ensure NHSE's digital assets remain secure from threat and vulnerability.

It is responsible for ensuring that the NHS in England has a sufficient and inclusive workforce with the knowledge, skills, values, and behaviours to deliver compassionate high-quality health and care to the people it serves.

WT&E works across the NHS, education sector, and wider workforce to develop and deliver a range of programmes and services, including:

  • Educated to masters level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist area
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Skills and knowledge

Essential

  • Object orientated programming techniques
  • Microsoft web development technologies including C# .NET/.NET Core, MVC
  • Front end technologies HTML, CSS, SCSS/SASS, JavaScript, TypeScript
  • Microsoft SQL Server database technologies, SQL queries and database development
  • Knowledge of recognised software development approaches including SOLID, TDD, BDD

Desirable

  • Cloud-based CI/CD integrated DevOps processes
  • Knowledge of JavaScript frameworks such as React/Angular/Vue
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards, specifically WCAG

Experience

  • Relevant recent experience of developing modern web apps using the Microsoft Tech stack
