Privacy, Transparency & Trust (PTT) is a sub-directorate of the Delivery Directorate. The mission of the PTT Sub-directorate is to enable NHS England to drive innovation and improve lives through greater use of data and technology and to be a well-run organisation.
The IG Apprenticeship incorporates skills development, technical knowledge, and practical experience through a work-based training programme.The IG Apprentice will commence a data protection and information governance apprenticeship standard training programme. The materials and syllabus for the apprenticeship have been designed in partnership with employers, NHS leads and leading data protection specialists.
Main duties of the job
The main responsibilities of the IG Apprentice include:
- Supporting the work and responsibilities of NHS England's Data Protection Officer including assisting with the handling of data protection related queries and incidents.
- Assisting NHS England in its compliance with data protection and information governance best practice and associated laws and regulations
- Providing regulatory and technical advice to key stakeholders
- Improving data management
- Supporting the senior team in the development and delivery of strategic and operational information requirements
- Manage the coordination of information requests such as data subject rights, freedom of information and environmental information regulations.
- Overseeing compliance with information and records management
- Assisting in the maintenance and administration of the NHS England's information and governance framework such as corporate information management, records of processing activity, developing privacy notices, conducting information audits and data breach investigations.
As an IG Apprentice you will be expected to spend at least 20% of your time working towards your apprenticeship. All apprenticeships will have a mixture of online modules, 1-2-1 meetings with your tutor, workshop days, assignments and there will be a commitment on your time outside of work to complete assignments. Upon successful completion of the IG Apprenticeship it is expected that you will become a band 5 Information Governance Support Officer.

Privacy, Transparency & Trust (PTT) is a sub-directorate of the Delivery Directorate and brings together the previous information governance teams from NHS Digital, Health Education England, and NHS England into one Sub-directorate as part of the new NHS England Programme following completion of the legal mergers of the organisations in April 2023.
The PTT Sub-directorate will enable and promote public trust in NHS England's custodianship of staff, workforce, and patient data. This aligns with the new legal duty of NHS England to have regard to the need to respect and promote privacy of patients and the core principles that underpin NHS England as a safe haven of patient data.
