Job summary

Within NHS England, South East Region, the Wessex Local Office is responsible for the planning, development, education and training of the future and current healthcare and public health workforce across Dorset, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Salisbury.

We are looking to appoint a Consultant Lead for Postgraduate Teaching for Ophthalmology.

Applications are invited from current STC members, or from Consultants within the specialty who can demonstrate relevant interest in education and training.

Main duties of the job

The main remit of the role of the Consultant Lead for Postgraduate Teaching is:

  • To lead implementation of Wessex Deanery Ophthalmic Specialist Training (WOST) Simulation plan, including 6 boot camp days
  • To support and oversee activities of the Simulation/Education Fellow(s).
  • To co-ordinate and support College Tutors and Trainee Teaching leads in delivery and evaluation of the Regional Teaching Programme.
  • Act as focal point for key communications around teaching programme.

This may include developing a strategy for other areas of the curriculum that could be supported by simulation such as laser, communication, non-technical skills etc.

The fixed level of funding contribution for this role is £5,000 per annum, as an Educational Management Contribution (EMC). The number of EMCs indicatively equates to the number of PAs for job planning; however, the level of funding for EMCs are fixed and may not equate to your individual personal salary with your employer in relation to your planned activities.

The financial contribution to the Trust is then to backfill any clinical time.
