Job summary

As a media relations officer at NHS England you will be part of one of the country's busiest and most high-profile media teams.

You will play an important role in delivering media activity on a number of policy priorities for the organisation, finding and delivering impactful proactive stories about the development and delivery of the Long Term Plan as well as responding to emerging stories and issues to ensure that the NHS, its staff and their work are fairly represented, and the information that patients get through the media is accurate.

Please note that the reason for the fixed term of your contract is short-term vacancy.

Main duties of the job

You will play an important role within the team, including stepping in to support or cover senior colleagues.

You will work closely with colleagues in other parts of the communications directorate, and in the wider organisation, to ensure that stories support the delivery of the NHS Long Term Plan, and wider communications priorities, and that they are seen and understood across different audiences.

About us

First-hand knowledge of the NHS and the work of NHS England and NHS Improvement is an advantage but the most essential requirements are impeccable news judgement, strong writing skills, an excellent understanding of the media landscape and experience of dealing with national media.

You should also be able to demonstrable the ability to build trust with, and influence, senior internal stakeholders.

The post holder will beexpected to take part in the on-call rota.

  • Educated to degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level of experience of working at a similar level in specialist area

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Specialist knowledge in a relevant subject to post graduate level Experience and understanding of evaluating and measuring the performance of health services
  • Comprehensive knowledge of project management and/or health information systems development
  • Workforce development knowledge and experience
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Project

Desirable

  • Experience in communications and stakeholder management
  • Previous experience in similar role in public sector.
  • A good understanding of the health and social care environment and roles and responsibilities within it
