As Technical Lead, you will be the driving force behind the implementation and maintenance of innovative digital tools, technologies, and solutions delivered to support health and care research applications in the UK.

You will play a pivotal role in providing both the intelligent client function and excellent supplier management, ensuring that our suppliers deliver efficiently and effectively for us in our work to transform how people apply to do, and then manage, health and social care research

Main duties of the job

You will take ownership of the design and build of the technical solution and architecture behind our research systems programme and will:

  • provide highly specialist advice to system and data developers on the technical impact of architectures,
  • lead efficiency changes within applications ensuring appropriate documentation is in place, ROI is demonstrated, back-out plans are agreed, and risk assessments are undertaken,
  • work closely with external system suppliers and delivery partners to ensure systems are appropriately maintained and align with programme objectives.
  • ensure processes and applications are regularly reviewed and developed to guarantee systems and processes remain current, fit for purpose and fully documented,
  • establish a high performing team of Internal Developers, providing effective leadership, training, and support for all team members to ensure that they are empowered to carry out the responsibilities of their role,
  • work with IT colleagues to ensure that the service gains maximum benefit, look for opportunities to collaborate and re-use components, communicating well with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • analyse and identify underlying issues requiring resolution and implement effective solutions.

  • Professional qualification at master's level in an information related discipline or equivalent experience alongside evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

  • Microsoft Certified Specialist

Knowledge, Skills and Expertise

  • Skilled in C# development or similar Microsoft coding language
  • Consultant-level specialist knowledge of enterprise level database software including Microsoft SQL Server
  • Knowledge and understanding of systems and coding within primary care

Desirable

  • Highly knowledgeable in developing cross platform code for Windows, Linux and Mac using a variety of technologies and frameworks.
  • Cross Platform Mobile Development platforms and their limitations on functionality and performance

  • Demonstrable experience in designing database architecture in a complex environment to include experience in the development and maintenance of mid-sized >100GB databases
  • Experience in designing and developing applications for at least 1 of the market leading platforms, iOS, Android or Windows and experience in developing and implementing coding standards, development pipelines and release pipelines.

  • Substantial experience working with NHS datasets or applications
