Job summary

Maternity safety is an important issue for all members of NHS Resolutions Clinical Negligence Scheme for Trusts, and the Early Notification (EN) scheme is one of NHS Resolutions flagship strategies.

The Early Notification scheme is an innovative scheme for NHS Resolutions strategic approach. The Early Notification team are responsible for handling maternity cases notified to NHS Resolution from Members at an early stage with the aim of:

Taking proactive steps to investigate any potential civil liability to reduce costs

Ensuring that local / national learning takes place and safer practice is incentivised and;

Providing support to members, clinicians and families throughout their own investigation process.

NHS Resolution are looking for a Family Liaison Officer to support the development, implementation, maintenance and review of the family engagement processes and mediation for the EN team.

The EN Family Liaison Officer is an exciting new key role necessitating a highly motivated individual, able to demonstrate strong leadership, problem solving skills and who is experienced working with families, clinicians and stakeholders, with an in-depth working knowledge of the wider maternity and patient safety landscape.

This is a home-based role with a requirement to travel across England.

Main duties of the job

Acting as a vital point of contact between families and the EN clinical and legal teams and coordinating internal and external resources to provide appropriate and effective responses to families regarding progress with their case under the EN Scheme.

Providing a holistic approach when responding to families, taking into consideration their individual needs, the needs of their baby/child and wider family.

Assisting in resolving queries and concerns swiftly by offering resources and guidance to families, responding to general inquiries, and gathering information within the boundaries of data protection and information governance principles.

Identifying and implementing opportunities for continuously improving communication processes with families.

Co-creating safety resources to foster a prevention of harm and no-blame learning culture for scheme members

Contribute to the development of EN family engagement and mediation.

Facilitate a holistic approach when engaging with families taking into consideration their needs and ongoing needs of their baby / child.

Be responsible for the ongoing planning, development, implementation and audit of effective governance guidance and pathways for family liaison and mediation, to ensure internal processes are robust and underpin good practice principles, which will positively affect families and other teams.
