Job summary

We are recruiting for Adviser(s) to work in NHS Resolution's Practitioner Performance Advice service (Advice). This is an exciting time to join Advice as we embark on a number of ambitious programmes designed to support and promote a just and fair culture across the NHS by providing an independent and expert advisory and support service for medical, dental and pharmacy practitioners and healthcare organisations. If you have experience in managing performance concerns and a passion for resolving concerns in a fair and just way then please apply.

Applicants should ideally have extensive experience in a healthcare setting with a professional background in any of the following areas: medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, employment law, the defence, professional membership or regulatory bodies and HR. In addition, you will need an in-depth understanding of the Maintaining High Professional Standards (MHPS) and/or Performers Lists regulatory frameworks and how these apply in managing performance concerns.

As the service seeks to broaden the skill set and experience of the existing team, we encourage applications from underrepresented groups. Applications would be welcomed from suitably qualified individuals wishing to work flexible hours (a minimum of 22.5 hours per week). Fixed term contracts and secondment arrangements would be considered.

Main duties of the job

Provide expert advice across all health care sectors the role is linked with and in some cases other jurisdictions (primary and secondary care sectors). Ensuring advice and support reflects an in-depth understanding of the relevant performance management regulations, current thinking and detailed knowledge of the organisational/local context.

Working within a defined job plan which sets out key areas of responsibility and specialist areas e.g. oversight of specific jurisdictions, advancing strategy for primary care and agreed work streams.

Actively managing a caseload in accordance with the agreed quality Case Management Framework.

Participating in regular peer and case review and sharing wider learning from casework across the advice service. Conferring with senior colleagues on the management of complex cases and preparing case to note (CtN) chronologies.

Ensure a robust approach to relationship management which includes regular contact with case contacts to provide timely expert advice. Follow up advice in a timely and professionally written summary letter.

Contribute to the delivery of a consistently excellent service, including supporting quality assurance and peer review activities in group and 121 settings.
