Job summary

NHS Resolution is a not-for-profit part of the NHS working for health care providers to resolve claims fairly and to share learning across the NHS and beyond. We provide a supportive environment for our staff with specialist training and the opportunity for personal development.

NHS Resolution operates a number of indemnity schemes, on behalf of the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, primarily for the handling of liability claims against English NHS Trusts and other commissioners and/or providers of NHS care.

We are therefore recruiting for a Business Resilience and Incident Management Lead to join our Corporate Governance team on a permanent basis.

As Business Resilience and Incident Management Lead you will provide leadership and oversight of the operational delivery of both the Business Continuity and Incident Management Frameworks.

Main duties of the job

Business Continuity management

Embedding an organisational business continuity framework.

Leading on service continuity planning and support. Identifying information and systems that support critical business processes, and assessing the risks to their availability, integrity and confidentiality. Co-ordinating planning, designing and testing of business continuity procedures and contingency plans, to address exposures and maintain agreed levels of continuity.

Incident management

Leading on the development and implementation of an effective incident management framework for the organisation; this will include oversight of all incident types.

Ensuring thorough investigations are carried out for all incidents and near misses and recommend implementation of improvement programmes acting as a catalyst for change, recommending actions to resolve problems and embedding a culture of learning from incidents and near misses into the organisation

You will also lead on implementation of a learning strategy from incident reports through the use of root cause methodology

Claims Management: delivering expertise in handling clinical and non-clinical claims to members of our Indemnity Schemes.

Practitioner Performance Advice: providing advice, support and interventions in relation to concerns about the individual performance of Doctors, Dentists and Pharmacists.

Primary Care Appeals: offering an impartial tribunal service for the fair handling of Primary Care contracting services.

Safety and Learning: supporting the NHS to better understand and learn from claims, concerns and disputes; to target safety activity while sharing learning across the NHS.

  • Degree and relevant qualification and/or specialist knowledge of governance and risk acquired through formal education and theoretical experience to Masters level equivalent (e.g. IRM, BCI Diploma qualification)

Experience

  • Experience of development and embedding of a Business Continuity and/or Incident Management System within an organisation
  • Experience of managing policy implementation
  • Experience of developing, implementing and reviewing quality assurance (or equivalent) frameworks
  • Previous Line Management experience

Skills, abilities and knowledge

  • IT and keyboard skills and ability to use Microsoft Office packages (i.e., Outlook, Word and Excel) along with maintaining databases
  • Ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely reports
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of risk management models

  • Knowledge of Governance in the Health Service, NHS experience and knowledge of NHS codes of practice
