EN Family Liaison Officer and Mediation Lead
This job is now closed
Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Midwife to join NHS Resolutions Early Notification (EN) team as a Family Liaison and Mediation Lead on a permanent basis.
In April 2017, NHS Resolution launched the EN scheme, which is the flagship of NHS Resolutions five-year strategy.
The aims of the scheme are threefold: to carry out an accelerated liability investigation to understand whether there may be an underlying legal claim; to collate, analyse and disseminate learning to try and reduce harm; and as far as possible to improve the experience of being involved in an adverse incident for families and staff.
This is an exciting role, and a unique opportunity to work at a national level and contribute to improving outcomes in maternity, and improve the experience for families across England, where there has been avoidable harm.
Main duties of the job
This role is suitable for a dynamic individual who has excellent organisation and project management skills. The successful candidate will work across Safety and Learning (EN) and Claims (EN and CNST) to lead on the development, implementation and evaluation of processes for Early Notification Team family liaison and mediation. The post holder will have regular contact with families whose cases have been referred to EN, and therefore needs to be knowledgeable, approachable, empathetic, as well as having excellent written and verbal communication skills.
The successful candidate will also lead on the coordination of the EN Maternity Voices Advisory Group, be the EN ambassador for family liaison and mediation, lead training and team updates as well as work with stakeholders on the co-production of family facing resources.
About us
NHS Resolution is an Arms Length Body of the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC). As a not for profit part of the NHS, our purpose is to provide expertise to the NHS to resolve concerns fairly, share learning for improvement and preserve resources for patients. To do that we have four key service areas:
- Claims Management: delivering expertise in handling both clinical and non-clinical claims to members of our Indemnity Schemes.
- Practitioner Performance Advice: providing advice, support and interventions in relation to concerns about the individual performance of doctors, dentists and pharmacists.
- Primary Care Appeals: offering an impartial tribunal service for the fair handling of Primary Care contracting services.
- Safety and Learning: supporting the NHS to better understand and learn from claims, concerns and disputes; to target safety activity while sharing learning across the NHS.
In May 2022, we launched Advise, Resolve and Learn: Our strategy to 2025 which is NHS Resolution's blueprint from April 2022 for the next three years. The new strategy builds on the work undertaken since 2017 to focus on early intervention, and avoid unnecessary court action and other formal processes.
