This role offers a rare chance to be part of a national programme working to make a real difference to maternity and neonatal safety across England. As a Maternity (Perinatal) Incentive Scheme Associate, youll work closely with senior leaders and national partners, helping Trusts navigate the scheme and supporting the improvements that genuinely matter to services and families.
Main duties of the job
As a member of our growing team of associates, youll take a lead on delivering the MIS operationally at a national level. You'll work through complex submissions with Trusts, offering clear and confident advice, and contributing to the way perinatal governance and learning continue to develop across the system. Youll also help shape and deliver national training and support conversations where clarity, reassurance, and good judgement are essential.

About us
NHS Resolution is an Arms Length Body of the Department of Health and Social Care, dedicated to supporting the NHS by resolving concerns fairly, sharing learning for improvement, and preserving resources for patient care. The organisation manages clinical negligence and other claims, and increasingly focuses on learning from harm to improve patient and staff safety across England.
The Maternity (Perinatal) Incentive Scheme (MIS) is a national programme developed in collaboration and administered by NHS Resolution to promote safety and best practice in maternity and neonatal care. The scheme works in partnership with NHS trusts and national stakeholders to drive improvements, support compliance with safety actions, and share learning across the system.

Job responsibilities
- As a member of the associate team youll lead the daytoday operational delivery of the Maternity (Perinatal) Incentive Scheme, helping Trusts work through complex submissions and supporting them to meet the schemes requirements.
- Youll provide clear, confident guidance to senior leaders across Trusts and national bodies, including helping them interpret evidence, navigate contentious issues, and understand what good looks like.
- Youll design and deliver national training and engagement sessions, making sure Boards and clinical leaders feel equipped and informed.
- Youll help shape how the scheme continues to evolve by feeding in insight, identifying areas for improvement, and supporting innovation in how we work.
- Youll build strong working relationships across the system, creating open channels of communication that support shared learning and better outcomes for maternity and neonatal services.
What you'll bring
- Strong experience working in perinatal safety, governance or quality improvement, with the confidence to advise senior leaders on complex and sensitive issues.
- The ability to analyse highly complex information and make sound, wellreasoned judgements, even when data is ambiguous or challenging.
- Skilled communication, with the confidence to translate technical or clinical detail into clear guidance for Boards, clinicians and national partners.
- Proven experience delivering training or leading engagement at a senior level, helping others build understanding and capability.
- A calm, thoughtful approach to managing contentious situations, supported by welldeveloped negotiation and influencing skills
