An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly
motivated and skilled Electrical Craftsperson to join our Estates team based at
Darlington Memorial Hospital. The role offers a varied workload, supporting
critical electrical and mechanical systems in a busy healthcare environment.
You will be part of a professional, supportive team ensuring that hospital
facilities remain safe, compliant and fully operational for patients, staff and
visitors.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will deliver planned and reactive
maintenance across a wide range of electrical services within the hospital
estate, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and Trust safety
standards.
You will investigate and resolve faults, inspect
and test electrical systems, and carry out minor installation and improvement
works. The role also requires flexibility to support other Estates disciplines
when required, participation in on-call and shift rotas, accurate completion of
electronic job records, and effective communication with clinical and
non-clinical staff. Maintaining a strong focus on safety, service continuity
and customer care is essential.

Job responsibilities
The Electrical Craftsperson will undertake planned
preventative maintenance, breakdown repairs and fault-finding on electrical and
associated mechanical plant and systems across Trust sites. This includes, but
is not limited to, electrical distribution, lighting systems, fire detection,
standby generators and nurse call systems.
The role involves carrying out testing, inspection and
certification in line with current legislation and standards, completing minor
installation and improvement works, and responding to urgent maintenance
requests to ensure the continuity of clinical services.
The post holder will work both independently and as part of
a wider Estates team, often in sensitive patient environments, restricted
spaces or challenging conditions such as plant rooms and service ducts.
Occasional participation in mechanical or building maintenance tasks may be
required in line with service needs.
You will be expected to comply fully with Health &
Safety legislation, Trust policies and SCL safety standards, maintaining
awareness of risks at all times. Responsibilities also include mentoring
apprentices, act as Authorised Person (AP)/ Responsible Person where appointed
providing guidance to non-technical staff on the safe use of equipment,
completing work records electronically, and participating in outofhours
on-call and shift rotas.

- City & Guilds Craft Certificate (Electrical) or NVQ Level 3 in Engineering Maintenance
- 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations
- Electrical Apprenticeship
- Relevant health & safety training

- BTEC ONC or equivalent electrical/mechanical qualification
- Further specialist electrical training (e.g. inspection and testing)
