The role will support theCatering Managers, Assistant Catering Managers & Production Managers, in providing a safe, professional and high-quality service. Producing nutritionally analysed dishes for patients, customers and other service users, theywill work with the Facilities & Catering Management to ensure a patient & customer centred and safety focused service.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that a high quality, customer focused and safe food service is provided to the Trust and external customers. The highest technical cookery and professional standards will be employed to meet the requirements of the Trust and Food Safety Act.

The post holder will be expected to recommend service improvements and cost savings to management, where there is clear evidence to support the need for action. The post holder will support their teams with training and coaching appropriate corrective action where shortfalls in procedure and service become evident.

Main duties of the job

Main duties include :-

  • Ensuring the unit is fully prepared for peak times.

  • Implementing corrective action where necessary to revert back to the correct procedure. This will include reporting and recording maintenance requests for all areas of the department.

  • Ensure all Health and Safety systems and procedures are complied with at all times and any hazards are identified, reported to management and properly dealt with to reduce accidents.

  • Plan and organise straightforward activities, some on-going/plan and organise complex activities or programmes requiring formulation/adjustment.

  • Place orders for stock as per unit procedures adhering to assigned par levels.

  • Cook and prepare food to standard recipes, using knives, utensils and mechanical equipment.

  • High level of dexterity required eg preparing food for deadlines, use of fine tools eg for filleting/butchery .

  • Ensuring that the highest possible level of customer service is delivered by all members of the catering team consistently to all customers, both internal and external.

  • To ensure all the cleaning materials and disposables are used economically, and that only chemicals provided by York Teaching Hospital Facilities Management (YTHFM) are used in accordance with cleaning schedules and COSHH training.
  • To assist the Production Manager with recruitment processes as and when required.
