To work with Directorates, Wards and Departments in the provision of a comprehensive Portering Service throughout the Trust.
Applicants must be physically fit, have good communication skills and the ability to work on their own initiative and as part of a team. Self motivation, commitment to customer care and quality issues is essential.
The successful candidate(s) will be trained to cover all aspects of the Portering role. This is a physical role, which will involve heavy lifting at times: the successful candidate must be flexible in their approach to the role.
Full Time 37.5 hours/Part time 30 hours
Various shifts to cover 24 hour rota, including earlies, lates and night shifts over 7 days (including weekends and public holidays).
Hourly rate £12.21 per hour with enhancements time +33% Monday to Saturday and time +66% on Sundays and Bank Holidays

CHS are looking to recruit enthusiastic individual(s) to join our Facilities team within the Portering Services department at the Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.
The 37.5/30 hour roles are permanent posts working over a 7-day period, covering a range of shifts.
Certain roles will be required to provide relief cover for annual leave and absence, working rotas will be available with a minimum 7-day notice period. You will be smart in appearance with caring nature, good interpersonal skills including good communication skills. You should be able to work under pressure and adapt and respond to changes in workload and demand. You will be required to work within codes of practice and professional guidelines.

Responsible for the transfer of patients to wards and departments (often unaccompanied) by meansof wheelchair, trolley or bed. Patient valuables are the responsibility of nursing staff and will be dealtwith and documented on the ward. Patient belongings accompany the patient when transferred tothe ward. Collection and transportation of the deceased to the mortuary, to include all documentation. Openand secure the mortuary after use and ensure that the body collection trolley is kept in a clean andgood order. To deliver case notes and clinical equipment that the patient may need and transfer safely. Ensureeffective communication with members of nursing staff and patients and adhere to TrustsConfidentiality policy at all times. Delivery of medicines including controlled drugs (cds) from Pharmacy to Wards in a timely mannerfollowing set procedures and record all such jobs on the appropriate paperwork. To work in conjunction with nursing staff to assist patient transfers where appropriate e.g., use ofPAT slides to move patients from trolleys to beds To collect and remove waste, including domestic and clinical waste from wards and departments atset times during the day. To collect and deliver goods, and supplies from central stores to wards and departments. Collection of Food trolleys from Kitchen to wards breakfast, lunch etc. Transportation of ultrasound machines, crash trolleys, gas cylinders and other items as required. Changing of gas cylinders and flow meters when required. To change gas cylinders in the Medical GasManifold, check for gas leaks and accurately record require information taken from the informationdials To collect specimens from wards and departments which will include stools, urine, blood, bloodcultures for delivery to Pathology. Collection and delivery of SSD trolleys to theatres and departments. Collection, tagging and sealing ofused surgical instruments from clinic areas. To scan via the computer in the SSD office Collection of bagged instruments from departments, wards and theatres, attach tags, seal bags andscan via the computer in the SSD office. Load into trolleys for collection by sterile services vans. Check delivery of B Braun instruments against paperwork supplied and deliver to clinicaldepartments, When requested and in rotation, to carry emergency bleeps and assist in emergency Provision of a messenger service, i.e., Path Lab Reports, deliveries of X-Rays to base file fromoutpatients departments General Portering duties, including internal office and ward moves as directed by the charge hands.Heavier external and/or complex moves will be undertaken by specialist external contractors wheretransport may be needed. Driving of electric tugs and trucks to transport clean linen trolleys to wards and departments. To assist with on-the-job training of portering duties to new members of staff on an on-going basis. Ability to prioritise and work on own initiative. Ward staff, duty matron or on call manager areavailable for instruction and/or advice as necessary out of hours. Demonstrate good communication skills at all times when dealing with medical staff, patients andmembers of the public who can occasionally demonstrate challenging behaviours. To assist in equipment (wheelchairs/trolleys) cleaning/decontamination in accordance with divisionalplans and defect reporting on said items. Adapt to changes in technology that support methods of receipt of tasks (Capman ) To assist colleagues in departments when service requirements are greater than staffing levels inplace, this will also enable scheduled breaks to be taken. Attend all mandatory training, and role specific training as requested.
