Job summary
We are looking for a Grounds Person to work as part of our team to manage the grounds and gardens across Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust sites. This includes Gloucester Royal Hospital, Cheltenham General Hospital as well as other healthcare related properties contracted to GMS.
We have a small team of grounds staff and volunteers, which you will be working as part of, to manage all green spaces, pathways and roads. This will include maintaining the gardens and grounds to ensure the are safe for all users as well as helping to improve biodiversity across all sites managed by GMS.
This is an exciting opportunity to work outside in some beautiful grounds with the opportunity to develop more garden spaces for NHS staff, patients and their families to use. There are numerous opportunities for personal and career development with training offered as part of the role.
You will be based at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital but with regular travel to all locations GMS have contracts.
Main duties of the job
You will work as part of the Grounds team to maintain the existing landscaping, including paths, roads, gardens and other green spaces.
This will include following instruction from the Grounds Manager and Grounds Supervisor to develop and improve the grounds in terms of biodiversity and green space.
Main routine duties are leaf clearing, grass cutting, pruning of trees, shrubs and hedges, maintenance of herbaceous and decorative borders, gritting paths and roads in winter.
A full current driving license is required as you will need to visit the other properties serviced by GMS within the area. The Grounds team have access to leased vehicles which you will need a suitable license to operate.

MAIN DUTIES
Following the work programme for grounds team
Regular routine tasks - leaf clearing, grass cutting, pruning of trees, shrubs and hedges, maintenance of herbaceous and decorative borders, gritting paths and roads in winter.
COMMUNICATION AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Communication skills - ability to communicate clearly with colleagues, local residents and all service users.
Working relationships - working closely with our Gloucester Royal Hospital Grounds team under the supervision of the Grounds Supervisor and Grounds Manager.
EFFORT, SKILLS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Skills - driving, use of garden tools. Good IT and digital skills including Microsoft Outlook and Office.
Physical Effort - requirement to frequently exert intense physical effort over short or long periods dependent upon task. Also moderate effort e.g. tree planting or use of lifting equipment.
Mental Effort - concentration when operating machinery
Emotional Effort - occasional exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances.
Working Conditions - site visits and working outdoors in all weather and temperatures. Occasional exposure to highly unpleasant working conditions e.g. removal of drug use equipment from the grounds or pest control hazards such as dead birds.
