Specialist Forensic Recovery Worker

Job summary

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated Forensic Recovery Worker to join our team, working with individuals and delivering psychosocial interventions for substance use in both group and individual formats, whilst holding a caseload of service users who are case managed by the FIRST service.

In this role, you will be undertaking specialist assessment and formulation of forensic service users' substance use problems and providing consultation, support and advice in relation to substance use issues to staff working within forensic inpatient wards, as well as to staff within the FIRST service.

Main duties of the job

You will provide a dedicated, comprehensive Tier 2 & 3ervice to people experiencing, or at risk of relapse into, substance use problems.

In this role, you will provide advice and guidance to colleagues within the FIRST service and wider Forensic directorate on issues pertaining to working with people who use substances.

You will work closely with FIRST case managers to integrate substance use intervention into care plans where appropriate.

  • To offer Naloxone to all Clients due to risks presenting, or as a precautionary measure.
  • To facilitate access to BBV testing
  • Be responsible for maintaining a full case load of forensic mental health clients as the key worker.
  • To work with forensic teams and colleagues to reduce stigma for people who use drugs and alcohol. And to reduce stigma for people with significant forensic history to enable to access to care and support in the community
  • A key element is to provide access to long-term recovery support through recovery communities and LEROs. This will require work that keeps everyone safe whilst enabling inclusivity
  • To provide, or support the provision of, tailored relapse prevention interventions with forensic service users prior to discharge from hospital.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Foundation Degree / HNC in related field which may include counselling, social work, nursing, psychology, human resources, social studies. OR Equivalent experience

Experience

  • Considerable experience of working with drug users.
  • A commitment to and understanding of harm reduction & recovery approaches to working with drug users.
  • A sound experience of working with techniques such as CBT, Motivational interviewing and Solution focused therapy

Skills

Essential

  • Demonstrate an understanding of a patient's physical health needs and be able to carry out blood pressure checks, infections control checks and ensure the service is in line with COSHH standards.
  • A sound knowledge of drugs and their effects
  • The ability to work flexibly across the county and adapt to meet the needs to the service.
