As an OT in a prison environment, you will help support and equip people with the life skills they may not have gained in earlier life, whilst bringing a much needed skillset to our team.The prison environment is one of the most challenging, yet rewarding places for OTs to work. The variety of the role will keep things fresh and stimulating whilst being part of a supportive team with effective management providing supervision and guidance. We welcome flexible working and will consider part-time applicants.HMP Featherstone is a Category C adult male training prison that houses sentenced adult males. It is a working prison affording plenty of opportunity for residents to engage in training to gain vocational qualifications. HMP YOI Brinsford is a mixed remand and sentenced establishment with a capacity of 470 males, taking Young Offenders (age 18-21 years) on remand and young offenders and Category C adults (aged 18-29 years) on short sentences of 2 years and under.Come and join our team where you will be supported to develop your existing skills and benefit the lives of others.

Main duties of the job

Working effectively within the team you will provide evidence based interventions. You will manage a caseload of patients and will be required to undertake assessments and reviews. Using a Care Programme Approach, you will provide a care coordinator role, communicating effectively with those involved in the care of our patients in custody and on release. The role will require you to be a reflective practitioner, eager to work collaboratively with patients, carers and team members to contribute to the delivery of an effective, dynamic, specialist OT service. You will work with individuals from initial assessment through to discharge, which can include transferring care to other providers such as hospitals or CMHTs whilst working with a variety of agencies in the Offender Health Pathway. You will help to rehabilitate and support service users to live decent and purposeful lives as members of the community. Inclusion (part of Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust) has prison substance misuse and mental health teams across the country and you will benefit from training and development opportunities as well as the support of an NHS employer experienced in providing prison healthcare for many years.
