Her Majesty's Young Offender Institute (HMYOI) Werrington
e are looking for a creative and forward-thinking individual for the Inclusion Mental Health and Substance Misuse Team to help us make a real difference to the lives of the young men (aged 15 to 18 years) in our care.
HMYOI Werrington is part of the Young Person's Secure Estate for England and is located near Stoke-on-Trent
We are currently in the early stages of the "Secure Stairs" initiative which aims to ensure that HMYOI Werrington is a "holistic system": that all staff have the right training, skills, supervision and support to understand and then facilitate positive change for individuals who may have had many adverse childhood experiences.
This will enable those in our care to have better mental and physical health; better education, employment and housing opportunities; and better chances of leading a pro-social and positive life.
Main duties of the job
If you are looking for an opportunity to develop your skills in working with young people with complex needs (including psychological trauma, substance misuse and mental health needs) within a prison mental health and substance misuse service we would love to hear from you.

Successful applicants will work as part of a full multi-disciplinary and fully integrated Mental Health and Substance Misuse Service. Interventions are offered in line with a stepped care model with a single point of access for prisoners experiencing mental health or substance misuse difficulties, and you will be joining the supportive Inclusion psychology team who meet regularly to explore issues and collaborate on research or development projects.
We will support your access to regular clinical supervision and appropriate professional development. There are opportunities to develop and deliver group work and to shape ongoing service development.
Experience of working with young people in a secure forensic or criminal justice setting would be advantageous but not essential.
