Job summary

This role promotes population based sexual health improvement interventions for people living and working within Shropshire. The role will include the provision of support to adults and young people and include sexual health education (SRE) and robust prevention messages. Our aims are to facilitate HIV Prevention, POCT testing and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered (LGBT) Communities.

Main duties of the job

Assisted delivery of inhouse LGBT / vulnerable person support Groups

Delivery of SRE programme to Year 9 10 and 11's

To assist the project lead in specific project work such as World Aids Day, HIV Testing week.

Supporting the delivery of programmes to meet agreed targets

Supporting service development and initiatives to enhance the reach and scope of the service

Deliver opportunistic Chlamydia Screening and C-card registrations and distributions

Leading with the delivery of Mobile Unit provision including some driving duties (full clean drivers licence required)

Delivery of HIV Point Of Care Testing (training provided)

  • Good secondary education
  • Any relevant short courses within the sexual health field taken, or be willing to work towards For example behaviour change and approach techniques, brief interventions, motivational interview techniques etc
  • Experience of working directly with young people within a recognised field, e.g. Health, Education, Housing, Social Services, Voluntary Sector or Youth and Community, (not less three years) oExperience of working within a multi-agency setting oGood organisational skills and effective time management
  • Have an understanding of confidentiality and young people's sexual health oHow to meaningfully involve young people oUnderstanding of partnership working oUnderstanding of the principles of health promotion and improvement
  • oA strong commitment to a social model of health and tackling inequalities oAbility to support project leads to carry out a needs assessment to inform project development oAbility to work effectively in a team oGood organisational and time management skills oGood IT skills, Excel/Access/Internet oAble to establish and maintain effective working relationships with service users and front line staff oAbility to maintain and update professional competency oAble to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences using different media, eg verbal and writing skills
