As of April 2023, team at HMP Dovegate will be providing a new initiative, an Early Days In Custody pathway. This new pathway will involve providing Mental Health screening to all men entering HMP Dovegate so that individuals who need to work with the team are identified as soon as they enter our care. This will involve follow up support to that cohort for the first 14 days in custody, working closely with other partner services to achieve this, and supporting referral back into community services for those men serving less than 14 days in custody.

Main duties of the job

Working effectively within the team, you will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidenced based interventions. You will manage a caseload of service users, practicing within the framework of the multi-disciplinary team and Care Programme Approach. A care coordinator role will be provided, communicating effectively with other professionals, internal and external to the Inclusion team and prison, to ensure through care support where appropriate. You will work with individuals from initial assessment through to discharge, which can include transferring care to other providers such as hospitals or CMHTs whilst working with a variety of agencies in the Offender Health Pathway.Inclusion (part of Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust) has prison substance misuse and mental health teams across the country and you will benefit from training and development opportunities as well as the support of an NHS employer experienced in providing prison healthcare for many years.

  • Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Register
  • Evidence of recent CPD and compliance with NMC revalidation
  • Teaching Certificate including annual update (ENB 603) or related mentoring / coaching qualification

Experience

  • Experience of providing specialist interventions for those with mental health problems, counselling techniques, CBT, motivational interviewing.
