Job summary
This is a Specialist Recovery Worker (Blue Light Project) post within a specialist drug and alcohol service in Buckinghamshire called One Recovery Bucks (ORB).
To deliver a strengths-based, recovery orientated and outcome-focussed link service for all service users who are hard to engage into One Recovery Bucks with a particular emphasis on high standards and good practice (in accordance with the Blue Light Manual).
Main duties of the job
- To work within a multi-agency, multi-disciplinary team, in a community environment delivering a high standard drug and alcohol recovery services in response to the needs of the service users as part of Inclusion and Midlands Partnership Foundation Trust
- To provide a link between service users who are hard to reach and hard to engage and Community Services using the evidenced based Blue Light Manual Ethos.
- Deliver a range of psycho-social interventions appropriate to the individual to motivate engagement and promote entering and remaining in treatment
- Harm reduction will underpin all interventions.
- Supporting service users to achieve recovery and positive outcomes, improve health & well-being outcomes, reduce re-offending / anti-social behaviour and reduce impact on other services.
- To contribute and work towards the key objectives of the Buckinghamshire Drug and Alcohol strategy.

- To deliver a strengths-based, recovery orientated and outcome-focussed link service for all service users who are hard to engage into One Recovery Bucks with a particular emphasis on high standards and good practice (in accordance with the Blue Light Manual).
- To provide this cohort with practical support, information and guidance on relevant issues i.e. physical and mental health signposting, housing, debt / benefits and education, training and employment (ETE), providing and maintaining accurate records of advice and support given.
- Ensure appropriate and effective risk management plans are in place for each service user, taking into consideration planning around safeguarding including risks of abuse and exploitation.
- To carry out assessments, make recommendations in line with the service users needs and refer onto appropriate clinical & non clinical services; following agreed pathways and processes. This will include facilitating the engagement of service users in the community for the provision of prescribing of substitute medications or assessment for alcohol detox assessments.
- To utilise strengths-based approaches and motivational enhancement skills to encourage and motivate clients to engage in drug and alcohol treatment services.
- To use strengths-based approaches including mapping techniques and relevant paperwork in order to carry out initial screening assessments.
- To carry out further assessments when required that includes strengths-based node-link mapping techniques and recovery planning.
- To work with a range of partnership agencies to co-ordinate planning and support for care in particular, to develop close links with Hospitals (High Intensity Users Groups), GPs, Adult Social Care, Mental Health, RSI/Housing, Probation / CRC, Police and other partnership agencies.
- To provide access to One Recovery Bucks in an integrated and collaborative process of SMART care planning.
- To provide those hard to reach with practical support, information and guidance on relevant issues i.e. housing, benefits and employment, providing and maintaining accurate records of advice and support given
- To provide general on-going support and case management by holding and managing case-load of this cohort.
- To engage with alcohol, stimulant and other non-opiate users and those service users not currently engaged with drug treatment services.
- To provide harm minimisation and information paramount to service users safety. To provide structured information and advice about drugs and, related issues that also includes blood borne viruses and safer sex and harm reduction.
- To train service users, family/carers and professionals on Naloxone.
- Work collaboratively with clinical services to ensure accurate information is received and passed onto GPs and Mental Health services in relation to clinical needs.
- To facilitate immediate treatment requirements for rapid access including rapid prescribing, and medical testing where appropriate.
- To identify and formulate goals jointly agreed with the service user on their recovery plan appropriate to their needs.
- To be responsible for the coordination of prescriptions and appointments for each client on your caseload.
- Compile and maintain a high standard of casework and recording.
- To keep and provide information and statistics in line with Inclusion, Buckinghamshire Public Health and commissioners requirements, including completion on Inclusion data. To effectively liaise with a variety of services to establish a link for individuals, promoting retention in services and ensuring treatment is offered and appointments secured for service users wanting treatment to continue.
- To attend all relevant meetings within the prisons and Inclusion.
