Job summary

To carry out building joinery maintenance work and installation to all QE Facilities contracted Properties both routine and non-routine. Responsible for repairs, fault finding and planned maintenance activities as directed by management, ensuring compliance with statutory legislation, QE Facilities safety standards, policies and best practice.

To participate in the building on-call out of hours service

Main duties of the job

  • Able to work independently and on own initiative to manage workload
  • Able to provide, receive and interpret routine/technical information
  • Able to work in adverse environmental conditions and unpleasant situations (ie ducts, restricted spaces, inclement weather, etc)
  • Able to work in accordance with the requirements of HTM's, HBN's, Model Specifications, relevant Statutory Regulations, Codes of Practice, British Standards and QE Facilities Policies.
  • Demonstrate high degree of cross trade flexibility, including mechanical and electrical maintenance
  • Able to work with discretion/ in a sensitive manner in and around patient situations
  • Use of all relevant PPE, tools and equipment within safety guidelines as necessary for the completion of works.

About us

QE Facilities (QEF) is a wholly owned subsidiary company of Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust (GHNT), based in the North East of England.

We provide a range of non- clinical services to GHNT and other NHS organisations. Our services include: estates, facilities services, procurement, medical engineering and devices, endoscopy decontamination and sterile services, transport, out-patient pharmacy, and prevention & management of violence & aggression training (PMVA).

In addition we provide consultancy services, advising clients on all aspects of establishing a subsidiary company within an NHS body to the provision of VAT compliance advice.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Day to day maintenance of QEFs contracted Properties, carrying out alterations as required, such alterations may include but are not restricted to the erection of stud walls, fixing plasterboard and door casings, first fix items, fixing skirting boards, architraves, hanging doors, fitting locks, adjusting door closers, kitchen/desk/work station worktops, rebonding of floor tiles, window repairs, fixing curtain bed tracks, undertaking all items of work considering second fix including assembling and fixing of components, fittings and signage.
  • To actively participate in the operation of QE Facilities helpdesk, including the timely completion of work dockets via a PDA (hand held computer) including completion of job sheets and Tradesmans reports.
  • To interpret and set out work from drawings, specifications and instructions without supervision and making purpose made one-off items to a high standard of workmanship.
  • To assist other trades as required, this shall include under extreme conditions gritting and snow clearing.
  • To work with and assist contractors employed by QE Facilities.
  • To be conversant in setting up routine maintenance and use of all workshop machinery including undertaking minor adjustments for example blade changes to wood working machinery.
  • Frequent requirement to exert heavy physical effort for long periods, for example heavy repairs, lifting and moving of materials and equipment.

Experience

Essential

  • oPost apprenticeship experience in building maintenance and installation
  • oGood customer services and customer interaction

  • oMaintenance experience in hospitals or a similar environment
