Job summary

We are now offering a fantastic opportunity to join our friendly and dedicated Team to join Hammersmith Hospital's Andrology department and benefit from the opportunity to train and work alongside experienced members of staff in an Andrology specialist service.

The department carries out Diagnostic Semen Analysis, Post Vasectomy Semen Analysis as well as Sperm Cryopreservation and sits within NWLP Blood Sciences.

You will be given training on all aspects of work carried out in the Andrology Department.

Successful applicants must possess previous experience of healthcare laboratory work and exhibit excellent interpersonal skills and competent IT skills in order to operate/develop in our department.

Main duties of the job

  • Efficiently receive and prioritize samples for all Pathology departments, sorting them intoappropriate categories for collection by relevant staff.
  • Accurately enter and verify patient demographics, test request information, and clinicaldetails into the Pathology laboratory system, ensuring all documentation meets Truststandards.
  • Participate in the identification, preparation, and separation of blood and urine samplesinto secondary containers, adhering to health and safety policies for handling potentiallyinfectious materials, including the safe use of concentrated hydrochloric acid and Dry ice.
  • Utilize laboratory equipment, such as automatic pipettes, balances, and centrifuges, withprecision, including the recording of refrigerator temperatures.
  • Troubleshooting and rejection of unsuitable samples.
  • To monitor and store consumables overseeing a procedure of stock rotation and supportthe department in maintaining appropriate stock levels.
  • To monitor the cleanliness and disinfection of laboratory surroundings and equipment ismaintained.
  • To report to the relevant manager any errors or incidents in line with departmentalprocedure
  • Address issues within the work area, referring unresolved matters to senior staff, andensure compliance with standard operational policies.
  • Train new team members and contribute to departmental meetings by sharing ideasthrough the staff suggestions pathway

NWLP Induction

The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles). All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.
