Job summary

Hours per week

Working over 7 days per week between hours 6am - 8pm

Key requirements:

The post holder will need to be physically fit, have good communication skills to be able to converse with patients, visitors and staff, have basic computer skills to undertake e-learning, have competent numeracy and literary skills to follow written instructions. They will need to be flexible in the hours they can work.

The successful applicant will be able to undertake manual handling tasks, be able to work on their own and within a team. You should be self-motivated, flexible and helpful and have experience of dealing with people face to face and telephone.

Main duties of the job

About the role:

The Portering department provide a range of services to the Trust including:

patient movement,

supplies, pharmacy deliveries,

furniture and equipment delivery and transfer,

Medical Gases

collection and segregation of waste.

Waste operatives can be required to carry out all of the duties above, but will work predominantly in the collection and segregation of waste throughout the hospital site. Waste operatives can be required to work on their own or as part of a team depending on the area they are allocated to.
