Job summary

CHoICE Facilities Services (based at South Tyneside District Hospital) is looking to recruit a Qualified Chef who will be required to work and provide cover across 7 days.

40 hours per week (5 days out of 7 at 8 hours per day - working between 10.00-19.00)

(enhancements paid for weekends)

This post will organise all food prep and general chef duties, including arranging ward food shortages from time to time, ensuring a timely, efficient service to all wards and the hospital restaurant. The role will also involve answering the telephone from time to time and organising food deliveries, where training for this will be provided.

Starting salary is £26,259, rising to £27,395 per year plus enhancements.

It is possible to earn over £29,000 per annum with overtime and paid enhancements (this being based on previous employees).

27 Days annual leave and up to 8 bank holidays (pro-rata)

Main duties of the job

To complete daily food service tasks to Trust locations. To ensure the patient, staff and visitor meal service is provided in a safe, clean and hygienic environment. Ensure high standards of cleanliness are met and maintained.

Ensure that all food supplies which are delivered are checked following the Food Safety Management System (FSMS).

To be flexible on a day-to-day basis moving from area to area and across departments within catering.

To prepare, produce, cook, and serve food to patients, staff and visitors.

To always maintain a clean safe hygienic work area, adopting a clean as you go policy record accurately food safety information.

Chefs are expected to show a flexible attitude to work and work routine, as this can and will change from day to day. On occasion chefs will be required to work additional hours to ensure service continuity, additional hours are paid at overtime rates.

Skills required for food preparation, ensuring deadline service times are met. Fine knife skills required for accuracy and speed with preparation. All aspects of food production methods and food safety records.
