Apprenticeship Multi Skill Engineer (Electrical/Mechanical) Fixed Term for 4
Years
Support service installations and their maintenance are an
essential part of the NHS and form a vital link in Health Care Provision. An exciting
and challenging position have arisen for Level 3 Apprenticeships in Multi
Skilled Engineering which will require the individual to learn and study both
aspects of electrical and mechanical engineering. Employed by CHoICE, a wholly
owned company of the South Tyneside & Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, the
successful applicant will work towards the completion of a tailored training
plan in partnership with the Northern & Yorkshire NHS Assessment Centre
(NYNHSAS).
As part of the apprenticeship, the successful applicant will be released
to college to allow them to study for the technical knowledge aspect of the
apprenticeship, it is typical that this is achieved over one day / evening per
week for the first two years of the role. Practical basic skills training will
be achieved via block release for approximately 8 months during the first year
of the apprenticeship, which once achieved, will allow the apprentice to
commence training towards their End Point Assessment to achieve their full
Apprenticeship Standard which will take place within the Employing organisation
and NYNHSAC.
Main duties of the job
The
successful applicant will attend a College to study for the technical knowledge
aspect of the apprenticeship for example one day / evening a week for the first
two years and practical basic skills training as a block release for
approximately 8 months. Once this has been achieved, the applicant will then
commence training towards their End Point Assessment to achieve the required
full Apprenticeship Standard, this will typically take place within the
Employing organisation and NYNHSAC.
The apprenticeship
will potentially commence during the week commencing 25th August 2025
subject to all necessary funding and employment checks being carried out,
including a colour blindness test. Qualifications acceptable on entry are
usually a minimum of GCSE at
Grade B / 5 in Mathematics and Grade C / 4, or equivalent, in at least 4 other
subjects to include a science based subject.

Job responsibilities
Carry out, under supervision, the following aspects, in order to meet training
requirements for framework:
Diagnose, fault find, and repair faults on range of plant, equipment and
services
Manufacture, assemble, erect, install and test new work including minor
improvements ensuring compliance with Trust and Apprentice safety
standards and procedures
Carry out planned preventative maintenance to statutory requirements
o Carry out statutory inspections and testing of plant, equipment and services to
ensure their safe operation and meet current standards
Use all relevant tools and equipment as necessary
Plan and evaluate and order materials for the necessary job requisitions
o Communicate with others on aspects of their work, including any problems
encountered
Make arrangements to attend wards / departments for access or availability of
room / area / equipment to carry out work as requested
Participate in systems of work and complete all necessary paperwork to
Statutory and Trust requirements
o Follow drawings, specifications under the necessary guidance of others
Follow Trust and statutory requirements regarding health and safety at work
Attend college, training centres and other training organisations as necessary to
meet requirements of the Apprenticeship Standard and NHS Employer
Complete training log books and matrix following the completion of work carried out
in the employers locations (s)
Submit all necessary paperwork to the Northern & Yorkshire NHS Assessment
Centre in accordance with the apprenticeship and Standard requirements
Submit all necessary paperwork to the Employer in accordance with the employer
requirements
Ensure all parties involved with training are kept up to date with progress and all
actions and targets are achieved within timescale
The precise details of any of the apprenticeship are dependent on a number of
factors that may be subject to change at various stages of the training
Demonstrate commitment to IWL principles and flexible working patterns, to meet
the needs of the service and staff
Tackle discrimination and harassment, and promote equality and diversity in the
workplace
Reduce sickness absence; work place accidents; and promote zero tolerance on
violence against staff
Take responsibility for personal development and education and the
development of a Personal Development Plan.
