Job summary

An excitement opportunity has arisen for 2no enthusiastic, conscientious and dedicated Grounds Maintenance Assistants (Gardening - x2) to provide the day-to-day reactive service & planned maintenance works in a busy acute hospital setting.

You will be expected to work alongside a team of approximately 10 Maintenance Craftsmen / Operatives (Building), ensuring planned and reactive Maintenance tasks are carried out in accordance with NHS guidelines, Trust Specifications and Statutory requirements, acceptable standards of quality, productivity and workmanship.

The post holder will be based at South Tyneside District Hospital, although will be required to work at other properties owned or maintained by the Trust as and when the need arises, delivering allocated Building Maintenance & Planned Preventative Maintenance, ensuring satisfactory standards of conduct, productivity and performance are maintained.

Main duties of the job

Provide a safe, pleasant environment for patients, visitors and staff by carrying out plant cultivation, grass cutting, litter picking, watering, sweeping, gutter cleaning and general estates maintenance (or development) duties.

Ensuring the standards of hard and soft landscaping cleanliness are maintained at the highest level throughout the properties maintained by CHoICE Facilities Services.

During periods of inclement weather, we are required, at short notice to carry out snow clearing and gritting duties, to provide a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. This can be at short notice and will be required to form part of a winter measures on-call rota.

You will be based at South Tyneside District Hospital, a 32 acre/14.5 hectares site, although they will be required to work at other properties owned or maintained by the Trust. This includes Sunderland Royal Hospital, Sunderland Eye Infirmary, Childrens Centre, St Benedicts Hospice, Palmer Community Hospital, Primrose Hill Hospital and Clarendon. This equates to around 100 acres in total of hard and soft landscaping to be maintained across a team of 4 gardening staff.

The post holder will be expected to play a full and active part as a member of multi-disciplinary team which will require a minor level of cross trade flexibility with the ability to drive works vehicles such as lawnmowers, tractors and Commerical vehicles such as pick-ups and vans, therefore driving license for this post is essential.
