An
exciting opportunity has arisen for a successful candidate to join CHoICE in
the position of Small Works Officer (Engineering). Providing services on behalf
of STSFT, you will be required to estimate, supervise, & manage a wide range of engineering related small works activities as well as
undertaking a proactive role in the development and maintenance of health & safety standards within the Department.
Undertake range of engineering related works
including, but not limited to, minor new works, management of non-complex
maintenance contracts, & minor elements of wider capital schemes. Furthermore,
to
ensure H&S standards can be maintained to the highest possible standard
where engineering related works are completed, you will be required
to play a key part in the delivery & management of engineering related H&S
elements undertaken at properties managed by CFS. This will include, undertaking risk assessments, producing method statements & the
management of various safety inspection/monitoring contracts.
You will have completed a
recognised engineering related apprenticeship, ideally have experience of overseeing
and managing electrically related installations typically undertaken within a hospital
environment and have a good knowledge of relevant standards, Health Building
Notes and Heath Technical Memorandums.

Main duties of the job
Working
under the management of the Assistant Estates Officer (Electrical and Controls)
with oversight provided by the Estates Officer (Electrical & Controls), you will ensure high standards of safety at all times, including the
supervision, management & guidance of qualified engineering related
contractors & in house staff.
The role
will require the post holder to undertake activities linked to allocated small/minor new work requests. This may
include: providing cost estimates, obtaining quotations, coordination
and supervision of internal and external staff, procuring & eventual management of the various disciplines related
to the works through to completion. The role will also include the management
of non-complex maintenance contracts, and minor elements of wider capital
schemes. As part of this, successful applicants will be required to utilise
approved & competent contractors and in house staff where applicable & oversee associated activities at properties managed/maintained by CHoICE.
The Post holder will also play a key role in the
delivery and maintenance of Health and Safety elements onsite and will be
required upon instruction to arrange work equipment inspections, undertake site
inductions, routinely undertake and review suitable task risk assessments,
arrange and deliver staff training and arrange and deliver toolbox talks where
applicable. Suitable record keeping will be required to ensure content delivery
and compliance can be demonstrated where appropriate.
